can you feel the rattle/knock thru the floor of the car?
if so its a dud bearing,...(rebuild needed)
does it have the same noise when it revs freely?
but its hard to tell by your essay![]()
Hey guys,
Hoping someone has come across this before, have posted some issues I've had before and the help has been great.
The 1G in my lux is making a fking terrible rattling noise and wont drive. There has been a previous prob of it not accelerating under load but revving fine (brought up in a previous post and until the other day still happening), but the other day shit hit the fan. It was idling shithouse and missing abit and when i went to take off, it pretty much died and wouldnt go anywhere. It stalled if i didnt quickly put the clutch back in and try bring the revs back up, when the car did kinda go the was a friggin terrible grinding/metal raping noise coming from the plenum (spelling?) side of motor every now and then. since i was about 100m from home, i limped it back to base. To cover the basics, it has new oil, water, BRAND NEW plugs, new dizzy cap and rotor button all done in the last 2 months of it being driven.
I know this probably has no info of use, but just hoping someone has come across this? Fixing it might cost as much getting a new motor (by the time labour and shit comes into it) and im selling it, so less $$ spent the better..
Sorry for the essay guys..
If anyone has any ideas it would be greatly appreciated.
Josh

No one in the world is going to be able to diagnose your problem over the internet, it sounds very serious, and you should seek a mechanicas opinion immediately.
Simple way to tell if the bottom end is stuffed, pull the oil filter off that is on there now, cut the top off with a grinder, and pull the filter element out, if its major bottom end, it will have bearing material all through it.
6BOOST
IN 05 NT to be honest i was so extremely pissed off at the time, im not positive, but i think i did feel the rattle thru the floor. i was thinking bearing too, the car missing and stuff could be a seperate issue i guess. some rattling noises did still come thru when revving, but worse when under load.
6BOOST i know its an ask to find an answer over the internet by a brief description, im not stupid, just a home owner with too many bills and cars trying to check other avenues before opening my VERY empty wallet. thanks for the heads up about the bottom end, unfortunately due to major space restrictions in the hilux, i may need to get the motor out to get the filter out. (slut) any other opinions/views appreciated guys

and yea if there's noises as loud as that or vibration as horrible, the best case scenario is the engine mounts, cams and gears are off the mark, something about the loom isn't right, turbo is stuffed, there's something inside the plug chambers etc etc... . worst case, big end bearing, crack in crank-shaft, one of your pistons has shat itself etc etc...
the oil filter idea is good, but if not, drain the oil and run a magnet through it? if there are any shreds of metal it'll be picked up by the magnet, otherwise compression test is a good way to start to see if the motor is still alright, the rest would just be trial and error i.e. start with turbo.. are the blades all still in there, look at the throttle body and intake manifold, no vacuum leaks etc etc... there's lots of places to look, and a quick search around toymods should give you some clues and suggestions
Research has shown child in front seat causes accidents, accident in back seat causes child
I agree with the others it doesn't sound good, but before you do much else pull out the spark plugs & make sure they are all ok, & complete, ie : around the centre electrode is the porcelin still there, etc .. Would be pretty rare, but if you have regapped them incorrectly ( to roughly ) you could have cracked the insulator causing it to fail ..
Worth a look ..
I'll try and stay positive and wont say it's a big end bearing just yet
With my old engine (4ac) one of the leads snapped inside the insulation and the car was running on 3 cylinders. It had the similar symptoms you described, running very rough and would rattle when i pressed the accelerator. So it's a very cheap starting point
Good luck with it![]()
I have been pruned by old man river!!!!!
sounds like a spun main bearing. When my 1G got the death rattles it had a spun main bearing. It wouldnt rev when it came on boost but would rev fine in neutral with a rattle.

1. check plugs
2. check engine mounts
3. check spark leads
4. check intercooler piping and joins (engines rumble and die with Air leaks)
5. Check oil for metal shavings (if so ur fucked new engine time)
if none of those solves it
take to an engine joint to take a look at it ... sounds serious if its not the first 4 things
vios - when u put a motor like that into a hilux, u deal with what u get. ie: not the best working conditions due to space etc. anyways, its my "toy car" and im selling it so im not too worried about maintenance to be honest. will check out the oil and the other things u suggested, many thanks.
lexsmax- the plugs are brand new, as in the day the car shit itself, however i will add it to the list and check again anyways
dimmy - ill have a look, but the car physically wouldnt drive anywhere, not just running rough, thanks for ur input
pube - unfortunately that sounds like what i have... does that mean rebuild/new motor, or can u just replace the bearing? sorry, dont know much about the insides of engines.
coFF33- plugs should be fine, engine mounts good, leads i believe are good, externally at least, cooler piping and joins all sweet, i already checked. as for the oil, not yet, will check shortly... hoping not full of metal....
thanks everyone
if anyone else has come across the same issue, dont be a stranger.
cheers
josh
well i came across a random issue today in my 3s-gte.
its got as of last week, new adaptronic, new turbo, new fucking everything then
today on the way to work, something goes POOF , shoots shit outta the zorst, and now no boost ??? GO FIGURE ! i am mighty annoyed and am just hoping its not a stuffed turbo !

While that is most unfortunate, what the fuck are you doing posting that in my thread?
just curious?
Threat,
COntinuing to drive a car with a minor unknown issue regulary leads to a much bigger issue so chances are this is self inflicted
its pretty damn hard to descrive a noise accuratly BUT grab a sound file and post it up for us to listen to. Most mobile phones have a voice recorder and just bluetooth it onto your PC, make sure you get the noise from idle and a stready RPM increase - record it from above the rocker cover AND again from under the sump.

yeah i know, it was running weird under boost for a while, i had no choice but to drive it coz i had to get to work, since i bought my mazda 6 it had been off the road until the other dayill see what i can do about the sound file, my fone is shit, more so im worried why the car wont go physically move anywhere also, aside from shit running/grinding/rattles..
If your phone is Shit try take a Video file and host it on Utube, Then just post up the link.Originally Posted by THREAT
