Noise and heat... The usual reasons insulation is used.

nb: if there is a big honkin' turbo top mounted below said insulation, might be an idea to leave it there![]()
Yeah i figured that..
Isnt it better to get the heat out of the engine bay not keep it in.. I dont care much if its a little louder, probably better so i can hear more problems..
I spose ill take it out them..
Thanks,
Chris.
It protects your paint from the heat....hence the warning for if you have a turbo or 2 sitting under it.

what if you turbos got some good heat shielding?
Previous Rides: JZA80, GA70 GT, RA63 GT x2, TA61 GT, TA63.
Even my ae92 corolla had developed enough heat that it started to crack and dull the paint on the bonnet. The motor is standard and the bonnet has no matting.

easy way to fix problem is to cut gaping hole in bonnet... that way, the paitn won't be affected AND you let the heat out of the engine bay...
not so good for sound or low flying birds/children...![]()

Or you could be like someone else and remove headlights and bonnet for increased airflow aye Stu![]()

and toyota have the Celica GT-Four which have holes in the bonnet, but also mesh and directed snorkels so low flying birds and children won't get in...Originally Posted by oldcorollas

Good heat shielding, still has lots of heat under bonnet.Originally Posted by Jackel
Just the whole engine bay heats up, rather then a specific site getting blistering.
Dads Commo has paint starting to die from the engine bay heat, and it has most of the stuff in tact!
Don't pull it off
Stick some washers under the hinges on the bonnet to lift it up 1/2" and pull that rubber strip off the back along the top of the firewall. You'll see a noticeable drop in temperature, although you could end up sucking in warm air into your cabin.
I've just removed the strip on my Levin and it doesn't get so hot in traffic.
I've heard, and seen good and bad from this.Originally Posted by TERRA Operative
I've also seen bonnets get massive flex once raised a bit, my old Supra had massive flex when up like that, and a guy I knows S13 gets a bit of flex/bounce too...
But it's not noticeable from drivers seat. But outside it is.
