    Default 1ggte turbo question

Lately ive been hearing a grinding noise (metal on metal) when the car drops back a gear when the revs are low (it will stop if you back off the accelerator) and im thinking it might be from the turbos, earlier when i was driving and the boost kicked in and then when i backed off i heard the same grinding noise but only for a second

This happens very rarely and im thinking it might be due to shaft play? the front turbo was checked apparently at one stage and was good but i dunno about the rear. if this sounds possible i might look into taking it apart. Anyone heard of it happening before?

oohh man i hate metal on metal sounds. . .

before you get too excited about tearing apart your turbos or replacing them,

check u have enough power steering fluid in the resovoir as they become noisy and make grinding sounds if there is a lack of fluid. same goes with coolant/oil.

can u make the sound reoccur when the vehicle is stationary?>

Yea its not that ive heard it before and its a different sound to what im hearing. i cant duplicate the noise when the car is stationary and it wont build boost in neutral. it will only happen if the car is revving low and drops back a gear without me changing the position of my foot on the accelerator

i guess what im trying to find out is that if there is shaft play and the sudden increase in rpm/pressure that it would rub on the housing and cause a grinding noise?
