On a recent trip to Melbourne via the Hume Hwy, The Great Ocean Road between Torquay & Port Campbell and back to Sydney via the coast with a stop over at Bateman's, I did 3920km on 375L of fuel. I was on cruise control for only the trip down to the ring road. Go get me someone with a 1JZGTE that can give me that type of economy with the performance the 1UZ has to burn.

In an MZ20 Soarer I think it will be a fun little toy.

    Great idea.

yeah but do you make 220rwkw with an exhaust and a fuel cut defender?

the 1JZ is a much better option if you wanna go fast on the cheap

Nah, i still dispute 'much' better..... and fast is never cheap

The UZ is more than just a viable option, it's a good option. Yes the JZ will pip it for hp but only up to a point and the UZ is streaks ahead in low end response and a wide torque band. For a real life street car i don't reckon there would be much difference in performance overall with both options having strengths in different areas.

Factor in his future plans and the UZ just looks better and better.

I love the JZs but nearly anywhere a JZ would go a UZ is a viable alternative.

I agree the 1UZ is the best option for people like Justen who have skillz and dollars. However for people like me who are cheap and lazy there is a lot to be said for the JZ.

    I can do a 1uz manual with w58 and a normalish clutch, but my issue is I will be going FI eventually and clutchwise is where I'm concerned {most will destroy said budget}

The other option would be a NA-T 2J.

But anyways, Go the 1UZ, obviously a road less travelled, if you've got the money to do so, enjoy.

My other question, whats the difference in weights between the engines?
FI on a 1UZ wont be any harder (depending on how you do it of course) than FI on a 2JZ-GE, plus the 1UZ will piss all over it anyway for grunt. In $ per hp terms again depending on the method it will probably come out in front too.

So it really comes down to using the 1UZ or a factory turbo 1/2JZ

Also note that using available numbers posted around the net, a 1UZ is around 60-80kg lighter than a 2JZ

how much does a 1UZ weigh anyway? I didnt get a chance to get a hoist, so 4 of us had to lift the sucker off the trailer and onto a tyre. It sure felt heavy.

how would it not be any harder?

you can get off the shelf manifolds for 2JZGE's and fabbing them up is the hardest part!

mmm... bit of a useless argument i think. Ive bought the 1UZ, so it will be 1UZ powered.

Im sure a 1UZ soarer will be more of a crowd pleaser than another 1JZ/2JZ drifter.

I like to be different, and this will be different, sound awesome and have some grunt to boot.

1UZ intake manifolds for twin screw type s/c are off-the shelf

centrifugal-type s/c just need a bracket and belt....

Even front-mount turbo installs have been done by flipping the factory manifolds and extending them...

I like your idea sbyder! The 7m in my soarer just got the BHG and a 1UZ is certainly an option for me! I shall be watching this thread with bated breath, I'd love to see the results!

have a read of my project UZ20 in the members ride section, as that is where everything is going to be updated. Currently, Ive pulled the water pump off waiting on a new one.
Then we need to save for the manual conversion kit.
