theres one in russia that used a UZS131 crown cut and another one in the netherlands that used an SC400 soarer cut

theres a supercharged aerocabin in japan and no doubt atleast one more there aswell

im pretty sure u can claim the first aussie one tho!

Provided they fit, the Soarer headers may not be a bad choice (for stock) as from what i can see there is scope to make them flow considerably better by removing/cleaning up metal inside the pipe joins

If you have a look at them you will see what i mean

i agree completely, but i recon they'll foul on the firewall. I might just buy some pieces of angle pipe and make my own.

youre stupid if youre thinking of any motor other than a 1JZGTE from a JZA70...it will be the cheapest and easiest option by far...

fuel cut defender, china cooler, 3" catback and yer looking at an easy 220rwkw, then the only problem you will face will be where you are gonna get all the rear tyres from you will destroy..

1UZ to make 170rwkw will require an aftermarket ECU and better headers...just $2500 on headers and ECU alone...and then you havent even bought an engine yet, or a bellhousing, or a clutch...and yer still stuck with a Wbox anyway...which if you are using for drifting, behind an NA 1UZ in a 1500 or so KG car you are going to smash one every time you go to the track...

In summation...if you are trying to be sensible about doing this and you want to make it slide for the cheapest amount possible then you need to buy a 1JZ halfcut and swap it all into the soarer...the 1UZ will never be the cheaper option...

Also please note, I love 1UZs and hope to own something turbo + 1UZ one day...so im no hater...

    cheers

thanks Mr 1JZ.... your comments would have been helpful around the 22-12-2007 when i posted the question.

But anyway, Ive already put a deposit on a 1UZ, and found out which bits i'll need to be getting from CRS to bolt it to the 1UZ.

    Cost so far:

$1650 for engine, ecu, ignitors, coils, afm, and everything i need to start it
    $200 Walbro pump
    ~$1000 bellhousing and flywheel
    $300 LSD
$500 upgraded brake pads/discs (not going ballistic)
    $800 coilovers

    Total = $4450

So for around 5grand we'll have one of the most unique MZ20's in the world, which will actually go and sound awesome.

    Things to note:
    1. Its not going to be a full on track or drift car, just something to have fun in.
    2. Id rather have the reliability of the 1UZ then a 1J with frail turbos.
    3. You cannot beat the sound of a 1UZ with a tuned exhaust... 1J's sound like cheese compared to the V8.
    4. We want to be different. Yes it might be cheaper to bolt in a 1J, but wheres the exitement of being like a stock JZA70 supra?
    5. We will be making our own engine mounts and exhaust headers. For now, our motto is. as long as it works and is reliable, it'll do.

Also please note, I love 1JZs and ive owned 3 and a 2JZ, but the 1UZ is just bliss.

Don't worry mate if your proj is classed as stupid mine must make me totally mentally retarded

Easy is not always best and common is rarely desireable. I reckon you are on a winner even if it's a bit more effort for a little less result.

    thanks mate.

your conversion wasnt totally mentally retarded, it was and still is one of the most insane conversions out there.... and for the most of us, we love that!

I just keep telling the boys, once we get good at controlling the car and power is holding us back, another 5K or so and we'll have a blower on it pushing easily over 250RWKW

For what it's worth, I have a 1UZFE in an MX83 Cressida and think it's the best conversion about.

No mods other than a 2.5" exhaust system & quiet. Very stealth!

On a recent trip to Melbourne via the Hume Hwy, The Great Ocean Road between Torquay & Port Campbell and back to Sydney via the coast with a stop over at Bateman's, I did 3920km on 375L of fuel. I was on cruise control for only the trip down to the ring road. Go get me someone with a 1JZGTE that can give me that type of economy with the performance the 1UZ has to burn.

In an MZ20 Soarer I think it will be a fun little toy.

    Great idea.

I'm in a similar debate at current.

But MX83, my biggest issue is budget.

    I can do a 1uz manual with w58 and a normalish clutch, but my issue is I will be going FI eventually and clutchwise is where I'm concerned {most will destroy said budget}

The other option would be a NA-T 2J.

But anyways, Go the 1UZ, obviously a road less travelled, if you've got the money to do so, enjoy.

My other question, whats the difference in weights between the engines?

    Don't know the difference between 2JZ & 1UZ, but my MX83 is 30kg lighter with the 1UZ than with a 7MGE.
