I don't see how the 6 speed from a IS200 would be better on the highway as the final gear ratio is similar.
T50 5th gear = 0.861:1
W58 5th gear = 0.783:1
IS200 6th gear = 0.869:1
Better off going with a w58 if you want to get lower highway revs
Iam currently fitting a t56 Tremec 6 speed behind my 3tgte.
After a lot of investigation, Ive found for value for money, strength, and gear ratios.
Its better than an Albins W58, R154, or a Holinger.
Also the radiator/thermo fan combo from a VS Commodore is allmost a perfect fitin the ra60s.
Its very cheap, very light, very efficent and most parts outlets have lots in stock.
The only issue is the top hose fitting is on the wrong side.

Ahh interesting info, do you know what's the optimum pulley ratio or underdrive percentage? I've read before that on high revving engines they cut/mod the wtr pump fins so lessen the cavitation efect, is this right?Matter of facts it is totally the opposite, the water pump need to be slow down to make the system more stable thats a old school trick, BRD racing sells a under-drive pulley for that same reason, Moroso also sells a pulley to underdrive and slow down water pumps, also the best choice is an electric Mezziere inline water pump that always keep the system at a controlled steady pace plus you gain couple of horses by eliminating a parasitic devise!

this may be out of the blue BUT yesterday i was at a swap meet and a guy was selling gaskets for all sorts and i managed to find 4 exhaust gaskets to fit 2t/3t engines and i paid $10 for all of them there a genie brand. i allso picked up a celica / carina ta6- ra6- workshop manual for body/ chassie and a 22r-e workshop manual all toyota factory books i picked them both up for $5 buks each.

Your spark plug heat range has needs to change as you increase boost pressure. At 15PSI and above I would be running a 7 in NGK plugs (Iriway 7 will give you a stronger spark) or if you run the Bosch items an IK22 is the go. You also meed to be mindful of your plug gap as to big a gap means its easier to blow out the spark. a 0.8 gap will be nice ay 15 PSI

quick question. My car has now done about 11,000km in the last 4 years.
My alternator appears to have died again.. it was completely rebuilt and rewould to give more output, 95amp or something i cant remember.
So I got the CT20b on and gave the car a few 0-100km runs (about 4 runs) and she's quick doing around 7.5 secs which is fast enough for me.
Anyway the regulator was replaced on it recently and i think the alternator is just not happy with a 6000+ RPM engine.
I have been reading that the EA falcon alt is good and the 22RE alt is good (just make bracket).. but i dont want to do either of these if they cant withstand 6000rpm.
I rarely do those revs as I am getting around 6.5 to 7.5 L / 100km fuel economy which is really great ! and i dont want the car to keep braking.
So I'm wanting to hear from the 3TGTE wizards that put their revs up but their alternators survive.
thanks

Hey Steeko, Ive been running a 22re alt on the rally car with standard pulleys for the last 4 years.
It see,s 7000rpm a lot during events. Probably more than a road car would in 20,000 ks. Depends on the driver I guess.
Combine that with dust, water and extreme temps, the Denso unit is fairly tough.
thanks for the info there, i will be going with your suggestion i think.
Where the stock alt is the space is very cramped, did you have any problems fitting the alt in there?
I'm guessing you modified the stock bracket or made a custom one of some sort ?
i've just had the intercooler piping etc done and it's really busy on that turbo side of the engine, did you mount it there or somewhere else? The other side of the engine has plenty of space where the aircon would have gone, wondering if you put yours over that side perhaps somehow?
Only thing i have on that side is the oil cooler line (which also recently fractured).
Am keen on a standard alt like the 22RE and glad to hear it's holding up in those sorts of environments so it will be reliable as a daily driver.

Have mounted mine in the same space as genuine unit.
The mount needs to be modified to move the alt forward to align the the belt.
I just made a new mild steel one which was a lot easy than trying to change the old one.
Also found those cast mounts dont like to be cut and shut as they tend to crack and brake after a few months.
Hello 3TGTE gurus,
My oil pressure sender has somehow cracked, maybe weakened when my one-way valve setup failed and pressurised the crankcase..
My question is, can I replace it with an equivalent but newer unit? Are they interchangeable at all, so long as the thread is the same?
Cheers,
Al

Thanks for the info, I made a few phone calls and visited my local Toyota spare parts. Of course, they only have access to the parts listings for cars which were sold in Australia, which leaves out the 2TG and 3TG series engines.
I did find a sender (as opposed to a switch for the light) for a 3TC, which Toyota don't stock anymore. It was the same part number as the pre-1989 YRZ Toyota Tarago's (with the 3YC) believe it or not.
So I've order one from Auto One. When it comes in I'll report back as to whether it is a suitable match for the TA22 GT gauge setup
Cheers,
Al

Al,
Do you have an oiol pressure Gauge or an Oil check light ?
It its the light then any TA22 oil pressure sender will fit and be perfect. If its the Gauge then the easiest local source is from an ST162 or an RA40 with the oil pressure gauge.
