What happened to Maxaction?

So what happened to the Maxaction events that used to run at the race course?

I dont recall seeing that one has been run all of 2007?

They ran series 1 in the first half of the year, then no one was really interested in the second series. I think they ran the promax track attack thing where you only run one longer course all day in the second half of the year only.

Personally I got a bit fed up with it turning into another WRX/Evo shootout. A couple of years ago anyone in a elise/mx5/mr2/etc could win outright. The 4wd people kept asking for a faster more open circuit and the organisers complied. </my2c>

I hate to say it but I think the turbo AWD crowd are killing the clubbie events for the rest of us...I guess buying one makes sense because they do the job right out of the box but for the rest of us on a budget we dont stand a chance against them!! Just another 2c!

I only ask about the Maxaction stuff because I remember the organiser was fairly active on Perth sections of forums and it was always advertised in the weekend papers but I dont recall seeing any of this stuff all year.

Yeah, as Luke said, there was a series 1 this year, which most of us sat out as we needed to organise new tyres, etc. before we could run in another event, let alone series. During that time it seems the numbers were dwindling a bit, and Norbert got a bit fed-up and went on a holiday before returning for a reduced number of events.

Then, when the reduced second series was about to start, he had to cancel the first event due to lack of numbers, along with the whole series being cancelled due to the location being required as a quarantine area for the house racing.

But there was a ProMax morning session run in November, with a Porsche Club thing in the afternoon, being the last event for the year.

As for Norbert and running anything next year, I don't know. He's been feeling unmotivated given the turn-outs, so it could go either way.

Although I sympathise with his problems with numbers, unfortunately I only do it for fun and can't always afford the tyres, etc. to go into every event. I'm definitely an amature, shown by my low positioning, but I'm keen to keep tackling events and giving it a go and improving. If the MaxAction series run again, I'll be down for the odd event or series as I can. But I'm also keen to try AHG and the Supersprint things too.

Some of the cars, whether they be AWD turbos or purpose-built track cars, will always kick my butt. But personally, that's what handicaps and classes should deal with the give everyone something to aim for in order to feel competitive one way or another - unless you're just bad like me

Personally, I don't think Norbert's handicap system works that well, but that's just me. Maybe if you ran in events for a significant period of time it would start to reflect your true relative performance/position, but I think it's not always good first up and can really dampen some people's enthusiasm.

So, I hope the MaxAction events still run. But if not, I'll try some of the others going around. Still keen to try the Classic Rally events too one year, even though it might be a bit more expensive to do. Just a goal of mine to do something like that with a bit of travelling around (mini Targa)

Yep, Norbert gave up on the MaxAction events when he couldn't get enough people to commit for the whole series he planned for this year. And unless he got that, he felt he was wasting his time.

Anyway, I've done one of the Superkhanas at the Superdrome, which I'll probably do some more of this year (when my CAMS license renewal comes through), and possibly some of the AHG events like the Autotests.

Did you run at the Superkhana today Luke?

Nah didn't get a chance to get everything finished. My cam only just came in late last week, the head is coming off this weekend. Hopefully will have the car ready to go by the Sprint at AHG on the 23rd

Tempted to try the Sprint one day too. Reckon it would be good for me to try in the SPIDA?

Definitely, lots of room to use the turbo. Though I would then be the one chasing your times. I suspect however that you would completely blow my times away.
