can anyone explain why the 3082 (3040) is almost always overlooked when selecting a turbo. ive heard its a mis-matched turbo by a couple of people. but what constitutes a 'mis-matched' turbo? ...HKS decided is was a good match for the 1JZ hence HKS GT3040 kit... its a tad bigger than a 3076 so it should go 450 yet its a tad smaller than a 3582 (35R) so it wont be as laggy? right?

edit: ...ill have to get some specs off the garrett website to put on here so you see what im trying to say.

t04z for 450 rwhp?? that is overkill

mates .63 gt35r made 410 rwhp and felt fairly laggy to me

    i wouldnt go any bogger then a .82 gt35r

ebay manifold flying stong here - no leaks after 2 years

hey todd - are u sure a gt30r = 3040r =3082?? if so that is what i have and loving it

stupid question, but could you run 2 T25Gs on a 1JZGTE? i have the idea of doing it in my head (as its easy to make the 3-1 manifolds) but am pretty sure it wont work.

it will work fine but wont be cost effective for the end result.

the stockers would probly match a set of t25g's so unless your going to upgrade to gt2871r's or similar later its probly not worth it.

    cheers

Ps disturbed1, we changed from a .63 to a .82 on a customers 1jz with a 3582r and the difference was amazing, it had more grunt everywhere including off boost and still came on boost at the same point

sometimes you can actually strangle a motor with too small a rear housing.

I've got all the parts to do this, but haven't got around to making it happen yet...

I went the tight arse route of adapter plates and ported manifolds tho

    One day

Roughly when did the gt35 come on boost? Just trying to decide how greedy for power I wanna be versus lag as apposed to a gt30r.

haha i want a smaller turbo myself now too, my goal is a quick track car tho, and its on a 2jzgte.
ATM i have a gt42, way overkill for a track car, and i also need/think 300/350rwkw will be plenty for a track car.
But id be going in a car with a gt30 and gt35 to see the difference, and then decide...

Speaking of manifolds, i have a 6boost manifold on now, and my previoous manifold was a greddy stainless steel unit, seat of the pants and watching the tacho i have \NOT noticed any rpm gain/boost spool from using the 6boost manifold compared to the jap manifold, i dont know why everyone raves on about it! sure, the quality is there, very nice piece and it probably wont crack like my jap one did, so i wont have to be replacing it ever again... but gaining over 500rpm like i was told id be getting is a joke!

i think 1jz747 raves on about them because he is sponsored by him but thats another story.

my manifolds are built very similarly to his depending on the customers budget but i dont make them advertise for me.

has the car been tuned properly? if so what power output at what boost? using what turbocharger and what supporting mods.

the only reason i ask is that when i did a 3s manifold for joshstix on these forums his car picked up a shiteload of midrange compared to the trust mani that was on there previously
but his car is also tuned well ie the car has the timing and fueling it wants
but if its not right you may not see a gain by just bolting on a well designed mani onto a poorly tuned engine.

    just my 2c

ps 1jz dan, it was over 3yrs ago and i cant remember actual figures but i know there was no increase in lag (or maybe it wasnt noticable as the engine was breathing so much better with the more open rear housing) ill see if i can get the dyno sheets for it but dont hold your breathe as i use a different tuner now (slight fallout with the old one)

2jzgte, stock internals, gt4202, e11v2,044 pump, 850cc inj etc etc...
Last person to touch it was esp, it made 406kw@26psi.

It would have more in it, im sure, but the comparison is between how it was with the old setup and new setup, untouched tune.
Of course tuning it after would most likely gain something, but that could be said with teh old setup as well, as i dont believe the person who tuned it then did a great job.

Dont get me wrong, im still happy with the quality of it, think its a great piece and i got a magic price for it, so im stoked, but i dont pretend it does magic either.
