    Default aftermarket ecu wiring question

    Hello all, just a quick question for all those people who know more about me when it come to wiring up computers. The old evorolla is not too far off getting wired up and im doing most of the prep myself. The 4G63 has what i believe to be a crank angle sensor AND a cam sensor, so im wondering how important it is to have the cam sensor wired up with an addition to the c.a.s??? It is a non mivec version (evo 7) The ecu im using is a v4 stinger 4424.

    Hi Jordo,

    The two different sensors you have there are most likely used in factory fit for sequential (as long as this word means individual cylinder!) injection and ignition control. The computer needs to know where each cylinder is on each crank rotation, and also needs an identifier signal to know which cylinder is #1 etc.

    I wired in my M4 motec using DUMB mode i.e. CAS (trigger signal) only. You need a distributor in this mode. This will only allow batch firing of injectors and overall ignition control - no individual cylinder trimming.

    Your ecu will quite possibly be able to utilize a trigger and a reference signal. The trigger signal tells the ecu there is a cylinder ready to fire and the reference signal alerts it (at minimum) to where TDC #1 is on each rotation.

    Without knowing the 4G63 I am making an assumption that the CAS supplies trigger signal and the Cam sensor will supply a reference signal, so you will probably benefit from wiring both in...

    depends how you are going to fire the injectors and coil(s) mate.

    If you want full sequential then you will need the crank and the cam sensors.

    If your going to run batch and waste spark then you only need the crank.

    need more info on your setup.

    Do you want to run 4 x coils mate? or wasted spark (2 x coils)? or dizzy with one coil?

    basically, the crank spins twice as fast as the cam, so with a CRANK angle sensor you know the engine position very accurately, but if you're at TDC there are always two cylinders at TDC - one at the end of the compression stroke and one at the end of the exhaust stroke.

    This doesn't matter with wasted spark, as two cyls (for example: 1 & 4) fire at this point.... but only one makes power (the one at the end of the compression stroke). The other spark is wasted... hence the name

    If you want to run individual coils, you need to know cam position instead or as well as crank position.

    factory it runs 2 coils (wasted spark) So im only going to benifit from having the cam sensor on it?

    I don't know how the mitsu sensors are configured. If you have a look inside the cam angle sensor, do you see two 'sensors' (for lack of a better word)? Like a 24 slot inner disc and a 1 slot outer disc? Or a slotted disc and a VR sensor?
