Some ppl have but I think the main reason ppl steer clear of them is price, ie JDM OEM Yo parts for an AE86 are rediculously overpriced, so often a better package could be setup for the same if not a cheaper price.
    If in doubt power out

I still use standard JDM slotted rotors front and rear in the rally car, and they are great,
I have expensive pads in them which dont work well when cold, But when they are worm they bite like all buggery,
Only time i have problems are at the end of +20K stages (long ones) where i have to spend as little time as possible stopped as because of their small diameter they suffer from heat soak real bad.

I am looking into a setup which would use ST141? RT142? Strut 100mm bolt space for calliper from HZ80 Land cruiser, the Calliper is 4pot X 32mm piston And RA60 20mm ventilated rotors.
Am waiting for wreakers to get me the callipers before trying to fit it all together
Will post a tech article if it works.

Edit race brakes at smithfield have a conversion allready made up at $1200.
don't know much details but it's out of my price range.

    Hey AE86Slut

You say they are the FC caliper brackets that you have used . Are they the same as the ones that i have pictured earlier in this post ??

if so can you send some pics of this complete setup to me and also what modifications you had to make and what rotor p/n , hubs , studs etc that you are using.

    It would be most appreciated.

shane have you got dimentions on the struts? the only issue i have with using different struts is altering the steering geometry. but keep us posted!

I am, and If you can get the calipers for a good price they are great. The rotors are available locally new and slotted from RDA quite cheaply. The rebuild kit for them is the same as the aussie calipers. With good pads you wont make them fade.

Have you done 3 consecutive stops from 180+ to 0 to verify this?

I've done 4x6lap sessions at QR (two 180km/hr hard braking zones per lap on the national track) with a 35*C air temp and a 45*C track temp. Queensland Raceway is very hard on brakes.

    So I would say yes.

(I did experience fade on the rears later in the day as I have drums on the back).

Here is a link to an NZ car using SW20 twin pots with a Bluebird (similar/same as R32 Skyline) 280mm disc. Its in a RWD Starlet with a custom caliper bracket on Starlet struts. Once he has tested it I will let you know how it performs.

Just to throw another option into the works. I have fitted a 1GGT into my sprinter. Hilux RN27 rear with ma70 brakes on rear.
Front brakes are GA70 discs and calipers off half cut. RA60 control arm, MA61 strut, sprinter top, coil over conversion, MS65 front hubs, GA70 master cylinder adapted to booster. Looks and feels factory. Only fabrication was brackets for front and rear calipers.

The front calipers will be changed to a nice mitsubishi alloy 4 spot I found once the engineer signs off.

sounds good jimmy, i think alot of people would prefer to keep the 4x114.3 PCD though, like myself.

and also MS65 hubbs are getting harder and harder to come by for decent price.

Once you convert to an MA61 strut, the choices of decent brakes become much much larger, and cheaper.

There are many reasons for changing to the MA61 struts, even though sourcing the MS65 hubs is getting more difficult (i have bought 2 sets in the last 3 weeks without as much trouble as many suggest)
-larger spindle means easier to engineer bigger brakes and wheels, especially when installing bigger engines such as toyota and nissan 2 litre sixes and toyota V8
-wider range of standard fittment brakes available
-availablity of cheap wheel combinations eg ford pattern wheels in almost any offset and diameter.

Before I get flamed about my choice of six cylinder engines in a sprinter over the 4ag series engines, once you have experienced the torque and smoothness of a six in a light car such as a sprinter, you will rarely look back. Except for an out right race car.

The combination of a 1GG/W58/Hilux diff adds about 80kg to the overall weight of the sprinter, the weight distribution on my car has actually improved and overall weight has decreased substantially from standard by stripping rear seats, insulation etc.

Different strokes for different folks I guess
