it they use a h4 bulb they should plug straight in a work.
Hey guys,
I finally got round to installing my HID kit into the AW11. It's a H4 hi/lo kit.
Took a few pics along the way so i thought that i'd put together a how to...
Start off by putting the head lights up (but switch them off), to do this turn the head light knob so they come up, push the knob in then you can click it one more turn, this will leave the pop-ups up but off. Also known as "wash mode".
Pop the frunk too.
This is the lights before HID conversion.
Now take out the 4 screws (2 each side) holding the plastic cover on.
Take the plastic cover off by pulling the top forward then you will be able to maneuver the whole piece out.
Now remove the 4 screws (2 each side) holding the top cover on. Then just lift it off.
Now you need to remove the 4 screws holding the chrome trim piece on that is holding the housing in place.
Mine were pretty seized so squirt them with some inox or WD-40 or the like first.
Take out the housing and unplug the globe.
Now you should be at this stage.

So now you need to put in all the electrical stuff, HID ballasts and the hi/lo relay box.
In these pics you can see my Earth points.
Now, i put in some new clear housings but if your reusing existing ones then just swap in the HID globes ***MAKE SURE NOT TO TOUCH THE GLOBE***.
Once that is all done you need to run a lead to the fuse box for power (didn't take pics of this, sorry).
Then reverse the removal process and it will look like this...
***See pics in a post below!
***NOTE: Although my HID install works, i.e. they turn on, unfortunately they do not switch hi/lo. This could be due to 1 of 3 reasons.
1) The hi/lo relay is busted (unlikely).
2) They have a 'dominant' side. I have used the drivers side but it is possible that the pass-side is dominant.
3) Like with some cars you MUST have both sides plugged in. As the HID kit only uses one side for control... i may need to sort out a relay setup to plug into the other side to make it work!
P.S. Images will be edited in shortly, just uploading them!

On the H4 globe you have 3 pins, hi, low, and common. The setup maintains power on the common pin and in a negative switched setup, it switches the ground between either hi or low to select beam. I cant imagine much is being changed in the way of this but just to clarify it is still wired up this way isnt it?

The kit... just plugs into the H4 globe plug on the wiring harness.
The kit only plug into ONE side! (As it only needs one signal to the relay to change hi/lo).
Unfortunately in some cars the headlights are setup in such a way that if a head light globe blows the remaining headlight it set to high beam constantly.
I'm not sure if this is what the AW11 is like or not, as i've used the drivers side, maybe i need to plug it into the pass side (going to try that soon) and worst case which i have had with only two cars i've ever installed HIDs into, they need BOTH side plugged into a globe!
Ok just plugged a globe into the other side... and it works.
So at the moment it's looking to be my 'worst case'. Where it needs both sides plugged in to work, in which case i will need to come up with a relay system.
Just going to try swapping the ballasts over so that the main one plugs into the pass side plug only.
Final pics... this is low beam!

wow, they look bright and glary enough to piss off almost every other road user![]()
so they don't have a sharp cutoff?
is the kit ADR'd?

No the kit is not ADR approved as the ADR for "HIDs" is for them to be 'auto leveling'.
I went out with my mate last night to check before i went out on the road they are less obnoxious than some of the new cars now-a-days!
Did a 200m drive past.
I'll take some videos once i get he high beam working.
Figured out it's because the kit wants common earth and switched positive, but AW11's use common positive and switched earth! So just gonna rig up a couple of relays.
why not just rewire the original headlight relays?
the AW11 has headlight relays doesn't it? the switch will be to earth, and then you can change how the headlight relay is wired no?

Just found a schematic for the HID kit (it's a German kit, hence not being able to supply one before).
It appears the box is setup with a diode, so all i have to do is switch two of the pins in the plug around!
off to do it now.
