Got the radiator. Brand new. Put in this morning, chucked some coolant in. Went for a drive. It started getting hot and shit, but not as bad as before. I think the head gasket is fucked though. When I come back from driving the radiator hoses are very firm and full off pressure, more than usual I suspect.

Took the rocker cover off to see how the head is bolted down, looks a bit different to what I usually know but it appears that with the 21R-C that the main bolts holding the Camshaft assembly down are also the head studs.

    Can someone confirm this.

Also the speco gauge appears to be back to normal, so I guess I'll reconnect this as well and see how it goes for longer drives. Don't want to stop leak or chem-weld it, its a brand new 300 dollar radiator.. sigh.

matt, sorry to ask a stupid question, but, when u filled the thing back up, did you bleed the cooling system of air pockets. I'm wondering if you have an air pocket stuck....the firm hoses may be indicators of something other than HG woes mate...

Did you flush the cooling system also? Could be your blocking up your new radiator with crap floating around your system.

Yer.Bled it by running it without the cap for awhile and I did a full flush and another flush on the new radiator last night. It stayed super cold after than for an 30minute 20km drive and i thought it had finally started to play nice. But this morning back to its old tricks but not as bad. Now it decided to piss oil out of the rocker seal for some reason :/

Not having fun much. Ordered a new head gasket aswell.

My solution would be to find a rusted out RT142 corona Avante with live axle diff and 5spd manual, buy said rona for $500 (going rate), install full 22RE system (including fuel tank, fuel lines, gearbox etc... I have already done this to an RA60 and its not too hard) and also the rear disk brakes, which GA61XX has done a nice writeup on. This will be your cheapest option and will give you the added benefit of having rear disks.

Sounds like you have bent the head... the motor is now a throwaway if that is the case... so either find another for cheap, or go with my aforementioned option.

I don't think RT142's are that simple to find around here ?

Their not?? They are easy to find up here, and Im in bumfuk hicksville Mackay... home to 80,000 people and one RA28!! The RT142 was a popular vehicle due to its long option list and reasonable pricing in the day, but now they are considered ugly and are often badly neglected, so they crop up cheap quite often... keep an eye on the trading post and other local car advertising publications.

Obviously a person that owns one now doesnt know its an "RT142". What things should I look out for in the trading post such as year and a few other hints in regards to it being an RT142 ?

    Cheers.

85/86 Corona, 2.4i model. Actually, any rona/leeka with a 2.4i motor from that era will be a donor.
