how to boost power to starter

I have wanted to post this up for quite some time,

does your car go click click click when u turn the key, but you know the starter is fine.
all those people out there who changed their starter motors and spend hard earned $$$ only to find out that the starter was fine in the 1st place. this is mainly required for older cars where the wiring and clips are starting to become brittle.

this is the relay required





you will need to locate the start wire on the engine harness, normally located near the starter or on the starter it self.





here is what you have to connect to where.

30 - positive terminal on battery
86 - negative terminal on battery
87 - wiring harness (right plug in bottom pic)
85 - to starter / wire (left plug in bottom pic)

it is quite a simple fix, you can either use crimp plugs or solder the wires on. your choice, depends on how fussy you are.

So you are fixing up the wires going to the solenoid?

Also try adding a better earth to the engine, nice thick battery cable with some big crimp connectors. I bolted mine between the starter body and the chassis and it worked wonders.

nah, the starter motor wire requires a certain amount of current from the key start, when the wires get old and brittle they dont send enough power, this will boost power to that wire/starter.

so for cars which yoiu have to bash the starter with a spanner to make it work this wont help?

people who have a starting problem and have to bash their starter, should try this 1st, it is quite common to buy a new/reco/used starter and still have the same problem, thats why this i created this thread

Had to do something similar to bypass the ballast resistor on a couple of my ke30's back in the day. It cranked fine, but it wasnt getting enough spark. Basically the same wiring for the relay (during cranking) and it skipped over the ballast resistor.
