    Default TA22 upgrade time

hi everybody, lookin at doin some work on my ta22 over christmas and just wanted to get everybody's opinion on what's needed, what fits and what works. my car is doing pretty well with its 2tg and i wouldn't mind having a stronger middle pedal and a better rear end (coz my dad reckons mine is fooked). i have located an mx13 f312 diff, rt142 disks (all 4) and some sumitomo twin piston front brakes.
just a couple questions on each:
-exactly what items do i need in addition to the diff out of the mx13????
-what would be better the rt142 disks on the front or the sumitomo twin spotters??? if the sumitomos, has anyone put these on a ta22 before as i know they are a totally different design of mounting then the ta22s and rt142s???? which type has more aftermarket performance pad options???

wouldnt mind a list of mods people have had to do to fit this stuff

Have a good search. There is about 3 brake conversions i can think of off the top of my head. Some are only mild but well adequate for pulling up a worked 2tg, others have the ability to stop a minibus full of rhinos. Most of those brake upgrades have a good cost figure in them too so you should be able to find something that not only works but is also in budget.

As for the diff unless your giving it a caning or breaking things you probably shouldnt need to upgrade to an f series although the bigger brakes would be a nice feature. I believe Skidds has been working on getting hyundai discs onto a t series and 30psi also has a top thread on designing your own brake brackets so depending how handy you are these are some options.

ya i've done a lot of searchin and collectin info....but alot of confusion appears when the info is melded together. just looking for a definitive guide from people that have done the stuff.

ya i've also budgeted and these fit in nicely. i was hopin to get a good setup drivetrain and brake-wise so i dont have to do too much muckin round when i receive some inheritance mid-2008 and convert to a 4age 20v. i'd also like to keep everythin toyota if i can coz i'm somewhat of a purist

ya only coz ur doin it

i'm really interested in how people have mounted the twin piston brakes on ta22-like struts coz it looked like a big job to get them on there as nearly the whole front end bolts on to them on their cars of origin

yes i've done some searchin (not tons in the way of the sumitomos tho), what i really wanna know is my wreckers has a rt118 and an mx13 with the sumitomos on them, are they the same ones as what rt132s and xt130s had??? i was just assuming that the xt130s would use the same strut design as the rt142s and therefore the sumitomos off xt130s (and hence the mx13 ones if the answer to the last question is yes) would bolt straight up to a ta22 strut as the ta22 and rt142 strut bottoms look similar.

just go the hilux 4 spot, much better, and the weight difference isnt really that big.....

also ta22, rt142/xt130/rt141/rt132 as well as most AE7*/86 and KE* corollas share the same rca bolt spacing etc

if me budget permits it i will use the hilux calipers then. would i have any trouble with putting these calipers on a corona rotor (becoz peugeots are gay)???

a definitive guide as to what to grab when doin the f series rear end and avante disks conversion, like has been done by takai with the rona/lux/pug thread would be good, as the threads on this conversion are a bit all over the place

if u search you dont have to assume anything

the mx13 has wishbone front end you cant put that into your TA22

the mx13 caliper is the same as the RT132/XT130 caliper.

you will have trouble putting in RT142 struts as you will end up with positive camber

if you want to run the twin piston sumitomo on a solid disc use the RT132 strut or a XT130 strut which comes with the hubs discs and calipers you need (keep the TA22 strut top)

if you want to run the twin piston sumitomo on a vented disc use the RT132 strut or a XT130 strut which comes with the correct hubs and calipers but you need to space the caliper out and use a peugeot disc. but by this stage u are a bees dick away from the cost of a hilux/peugeot swap and u may as well buy hilux calipers

here is another easy brake upgrade http://www.toymods.net/forums/showthread.php?t=25965

toymods is not here to spoon feed you

well if the knowledge is locked away in the depths of anyones mind i'd rather extract it from them then go out and buy probably twice as much stuff as i need.

i thank u for the information u have supplied
