Easiest way.
Undo tensioner so belt is as loose as can be.
Pull the belt off the tensioner.
Slide the belt off the cam gears or cam gear.
Get a socket or spanner and rotate the cam till it lines up with the markings on the backing plate.
Put the belt on the right cam gear and have it so there is NO slack between the right gear and the crank pulley.
Put the belt on the left pully with NO slack between it and the right pulley.
Put the belt on the tensioner and tighten it up.
Now check that all markings line up.
Turn the engine over by hand and make sure everything turns ok.
Put everything else back together with all bolts tightened and job done.
Hows the inlet pulley?

Just found this thread, A bit late but I was gonna suggest the timing and that it'd be out. Took me three attemps first time I did a JZ one, kept jumping teeth. Just needs to be super tight on the right hand side before adding tension.
Good work![]()
yeah when putting it back on i found it easier having the cam slightly out, then turning the cam wheels with a spanneer to get tension. did the intake first, then exhaust, then tightened the 2 bolts for the tensioner
