hi kugz
what is wrong with the lock
is it just not functioning or is the key broken in it
ian
Anyone know a way to open the boot of a ta22 if the key doesnt seem to work. Would prefer not to have to drill out the lock.
thanks

nostalgia is not what it used to be:
not sure...just bought the car and when i turn the key it moves but nothing unlocks.
Really need to get in too as the battery (flat) / fuel system is in the boot
key is fine...ignition/doors work

ask previous owner for other keys?
yeh...been trying to get through to him but havent been able to yet.
Just hoping there is another way of getting in in the meantime

Prolly a new boot lid and lock. lol Unlucky...
Maybe its time to shave all the locks off and put remote boot release and keyless entry? lol
Cheers,

Angle grinder? At least you're not drilling it out...
If the key turns the barrel but the lock doesn't open then I would assume the rod connecting the barrel to the latch has come unstuck.
Did you open the boot before buying said car? Quite possible the previous owner new this was an issue and offloaded it.
Just drill the lock.
Its not that hard as I had to do this when someone screwdrivered my locks. Just go slow and use a small drill bit initially then increase the size of the bit until the boot opens. I didn't damage anything other than the lock that I drilled out.
To replace the lock you can get one rekeyed at a locksmith to the same key as the rest of the locks for $20 - $30. I think that I have a spare lock kicking around somewhere that you can have for rekeying if you want or there are plenty to be had down at Nick a Part
try this:
- remove the rear seats, upper and lower half (optional)
- remove parcel tray
- stick your hand down towards the boot lock using one of the holes on the metal parcel tray
- just before the lock on the boot door there is a metal 'L' clip that holds the boot lock on the boot door
- pull this towards you
- once it's off you should be able to lift the boot lock off the boot door.
i would post pics for you, but photobucket is being gay and won't let me upload them.

2T-G - Half the valves but twice the fun.
thanks for the tips guys...
i was about to try what Fonz suggested, when my mate said that in his escort, you need to press down hard on the bootlid while turning the key.
Tried it and it worked, so all good.
Thanks again

ahh, to easy,
is your boot lock the standard celica one? or do you have an after market solex lock?
if you're having difficulty turning the key and need to press down hard on your boot to open it, you are stressing out you lock. You need to adjust the height of the lock catch inside your boot and/or lower the assembly behind the lock.
This usually happens when you have an after market boot seal (they are thicker than standard). Their thickness increases the amount your lock mates with the catch and when they do mate the amount of stress on the locking components makes it hard for you to turn the key.
I had this problem, i had the combination of an after market boot seal and solex boot lock. long story short the boot lock was stuffed. lucky I had both tail lights out to remove the clip. learn from my lesson.
