The oil drain back is sounding like it should be checked as well.

    same here for that matter.

smoke or vapour? is it useing coolant?
could be coolant leaking in through the throttle body(coolant temp idle up).
JZ's are pretty bad for it and it would explain why it doesn't smoke on start up(no coolant pressure) and why it stops smoking on hard acceleration(boost pressure equal to coolant pressure)
try bypassing the coolant hoses to the T/B

When I blew my engine (melted pistons), I put a wrecker engine in and had this same problem. I had oil in the exhaust and it did the exact same thing. Mind you it took a fair while for it turn burn up/dissolve...

Haha people wanna buy the smokey J eh weird! well...... It seems like the smoke was caused by a kink in the turbs oil drains I think I dare say this lil kin would have stopped a fair whack of flow but could only see it once the engine was out seems the previous owner of this engine thought heater hose would do the trick aahhhh well but if it was that wouldnt that have damaged the turbos anyways...

When the time comes I will post it for sale in the for sale section of this site along with other bits and pieces

a mate has got a smokey 1j too. giving it a hit theres barely anything but once he backs off it looks like a stunt plane so much smoke comes out.even on idle some smoke happens. the motor was bought from a shop and had the head and bottom end rebuilt under warranty, the previous owner got the turbos rebuilt.
use's alot of oil, a litre for every 1000kms!
i think he did say if the oil level is lower than its not as bad but still anoying. oil thickness's dont make a difference.
no oil in the cooler piping.
was thinking more valve guides/seals because its mostly on back off but return lines is wortha look before it comes out.
we put a new cat on it and it cleared up for about 500kms then slowly went back to its former glory. strange that it masked it.
who said you couldnt make a ae86 rear quarter outa bog, fibreglass and expanding foam!!

we have exactly the same problem but we only get somke after back off.

we replaced the 1j which was smokey (and blown up) and the new one has exactly the same problem, so i dont think its the valve stem seals.
