Maybe try an A340 with a Volvo valve body? Or just use the electric version and be done with it.
Does anyone know of a 4 speed auto that will bolt up to a m engine that isn't electronic?. I have a ms55 crown that i will be using for cruising and towing a car trailer and would like an extra gear. thanks.

what model did the a340 come out of? and if i used the electronic version, wouldnt i need a computer to run it?
The 4-speed auto out of early MA61's is hydraulic I think?

As norbie says, A43D out of MX62 Cressida or MA61 Supra would be a good option.

Yes cressida supra ma61 or Crown the only electrical bit to do is the overdrive switch which will be on the shifter from the donor car, Regards crownman 0412 711 481.
Yep crownman is right MS112 should have a A43D as well! Pretty the auto behind 5M-E's...
btw OD switch is on the dash in MX62, not on the shifter!

Gianttomato, thanks man, i will get in touch with you in a few weeks and if you still have it i will take it off your hands.
Also would an auto out of an Mx73 be hydraulic?
Yes. Only electrics as mentioned above is for the overdrive.
MX73 with 5ME yes
MX73 with 5MGE is electronic box.

I suppose the other option would be to use an A340 with an aftermarket controller like this.
A340Es are plentiful whilst A43Ds must be starting to get pretty hard to find in decent nick. A rebuild would cost way more than a controller.
EDIT: Here is the Suprastick - $350 USD + delivery.

Hooking up the overdrive is no biggie. i just don't want the hassles of an electronic box as i will be the one putting it in, so it needs to be fairly simple and i aint got the patience for wireing. Should these auto's have the model number on them anywhere? So that i can be sure i'm getting the right one.
Sorry for sounding like a dumb shit by asking all these questions, i just know it will be an easier conversion with a hydraulic box rather than electric. I will be using it for towing so i will more than likely get it rebuilt anyway.
There is typically an ID plate on the box towards the back of the main body.
