Default Bleeding 2zz celica cooling system????

Hey guys just finished doing a motor swap in a new celica with a 2zz and cant seem to figure out how to bleed the cooling system.

Ive filled up the plastic header tank to the top and undone the little vent butterfly doovey and started the motor, but no coolant is leaving the bottle and going to motor or rad, there is bubbles coming out the vent cap but thats about it.

    Whats the secret???

    Cheers

I have no idea how to do it, but I know that I had to take my Celica back to the dealer after service once when it was overheating - they hadn't bled the system correctly. Apparently the heater core is almost level, if not slightly higher than the the fill point and it's a pain in the ass to bleed.

I'm with Fletcher, I never did it myself on the corolla as it was a new car it was covered under the log book services. If it is as he explained, you may need to use a pump to get the air out properly.

    SHIT!!!!

yeah the header tank is definatly lower than the motor and heater, looks like compressed air might be a goer........

    Any other ideas??

use your hoist on the front jack points, raise the car about a foot and a half...

only thing i can think of dude, shouldnt be harmful the the chassis if done properly.

I've done it at work (Toyota Dealership). You unclip the front air intake thingo and pull the reservoir up and it slots onto the bonnet catch.

From memory you fill it to the B "Bleed" line and undo the jigger valve. After it has reached operating temp, I think you are meant to cycle from idle to 2500rpm every 5 or so seconds for a couple of minutes. Close the valve and put shit back where it came from.

It think that's the procedure. At the very least, you have to pull the reservoir up onto the bonnet catch to raise it above heater core/head etc.

I jacked the front end of the car up as high as it would go, then ran the motor with a cut off coke bottle with the end built up in tape so it was a watertight fit in the filler of the radiator, I also clamp the line that runs to the overflow bottle so the coolant doesn't just fill the overflow. I kept filling the coolant level in the cutoff bottle and squeezing the radiator lines to force the air out, once the thermostat opens most of the air should be out. I do all this with the heater turned on to high, but a mate from toyota said this isn't required on the 1 and 2ZZ's...

Once that's all done and no more bubbles come out the top of the radiator, cap it off and let the overflow bottle do it's work, it usually takes another couple of cm of coolant from the bottle after a proper drive.
