    Question HILUX BRAKE UPGRADES ideas.....?

Who has fitted what brake combos, Rotor & Calipers. To RN85R 2wd.

I want to do a upgrade BUT unsure which way to go. I would like to retain my 15" wheels so 330mm rotors are out. So 298mm ones will have to do. Also I would like to keep the budget under $1000.00. Don't mind using good secondhand parts....

    CAN YOU HELP!

searching will tell you that the r33 calipers will fit nice and snug over 29?mm ford disc.

    try the conversions section.

not sure if they will fit behind 15" wheels but it depends on what you run. r32 calipers and rotors can be used also.

Do you plan to run hard on the track or hard in the bush?

Or is it still a street runner, or is it for looks?

    I reckon stay OEM calipers.

Use goods pads, RDA slotted rotors and Braided brake hose to replace all rubber hoses. Well under $1000.

Then paint-detail the calipers and rotors.

Can you get sticker rubber for a Hilux?

    Regards

    Rodger

    Thanks Rodger.

The Hilux is a 2wd and runs a 289 Windsor and C4. I do plan a few runs on the 1/4 mile should run a low 12.

So some thing with a bit more bite would help. I will need to get it passed by a RTA here in Tassie. What is required for braking when fitting a V8 in your state.
Our laws are a bit softer than others.

    Thanks 289hilux..

what about a set of 4 piston brakes from a 4x4 hilux. i know they certainly pull mine up pretty well even loaded to the hilt

not sure about 15" rims though i suspect they shoudl jsut scrape under (not 100% mine are under 16" splits )

What is involved in the change over. Does the caliper fit strait up or is a adapter plate needed. Which discs do you run. Any advice would be great..

What about the extra unsprung weight is it noticeable.

    Thanks...

Look at the 4WD brakes. There are 4 pot calipers available. Landcruiser, 4 Runner and Surf I know all use them. I have a set of Bundera 4 pot calipers that I am willing to sell if you like. If you want to go one step further V6 4 Runner and KZN130/185 Surf have even bigger 4 pot calipers.

the later bigger ones would be the ones i have, they are fuge, i serisuly doubt they would fit under a 15" wheel.

I had a pic of the two side by side but cant find it now
I know the Bundera calipers I have fit inside a 15" rim as that's what was on the car.

Id be looking at the skyline option......

The calipers can be found cheap and rotors arent too bad priced.... ( they will fit under 15s with a rotor less than 300mm.) + they are a bloody good brake package

Not sure what is involved in the conversion but im sure it cant be too hard...... Hell if you can put a 289 in a hilux... Brakes will be a walk in the park

its in the conversions section of this forum with prices and a full write up, heck you can even buy the spacer off infotechplus and have a complete bolt on proposition.

stuff screwing around adapting the 4wd gear, its heavy and wont provide anywhere near the stopping power that the skyline stuff will.
first you'd have to mount the caliper and then find the appropriate disc to suit (the 4wd stuff has a 100mm+ centre bore) why bother? skyline+ba = bolt on proven performance.

    cheers

I have read that post it is great! +rep

Can you put me in touch with him. I want to get the spacer rings...

I am a bit confused with the calipers. Is this correct. To use BA discs I must use R33 Calipers. 298mm rotor.

The R32 /Z32 /300ZX, calipers only go with the R32 rotor. 280mm rotor.

    Thanks..Richard.

Cheers linden... -- Its not something i have needed to search for

289: yes that is correct.... The calipers will fit the BA ford rotors and at a guess are used because of their offset and adaptability over the skyline rotors.
