My windows have been sealed with a non-setting rubbery tar type substance.
Anyone know what that could be?

Wander in to a windscreem fitters shop, most around here will sell you a couple a tubes at the right price. They buy it by the box loads, so will be cheaper than the auto stores.

    cheers Chuck.

the guy who did my windscreen used a mastik that came in a semi-solid roll form - basically a rectangular extrusion with the layers of the roll seperated with waxy paper - a lot easier to lay it down in the recessed sections plus you can leave the wax paper covering the stuff until you're ready to put the glass back on.

no excess stringy, black goop to clean up.

If you are doing the install yourself, have fun. I would rather pay the man his $120.00 to have both screens fitted.

After he has gone squeeze some sealant between the glass and the seal. Most windscreen fitters do not do this, insisting that the glass and rubber will knit together. I can tell you for a fact the end result without the sealant there is wet feet!

    cheers Chuck.

The window fitter I know uses SIKAFLEX 926 black You can get flat nozzles. make sure you clean the glass and inset to an inch of its life so it will adhere properly.DON`T drive the car for at least 12 hours.
You will also need the rubber blocks to sit around the recess to situate the screen corectly.
Injected 5.0L FORD power in HILUX is the only way forward!
