Default Throttle Cable Needed - AE86

    Hey all,

Im chasing (or would like to know if any are available) a throttle cable approx. 500 - 600mm longer than the standard AE86 one. So i'd say it needs to be (im at work and havent looked at it!) about 1m in length and to suit the 86 pedal.

Are there any other cables from cars around this length?

    Any help most appreciated, Cheers

By standard AE86 you mean ADM or JDM?
From memory ive used a KE70, AE92, and AE82 in the past all of varying lengths. Some had to be modified slightly (mounting plate).
Another option is MX73 or MX83 which look remarkably similar, but may also need to be slightly modified.

    I used a KE70 for a 20V conversion. It's a fair bit longer than the stock one

If you are talking about for a 16V 4AGE swap, I used a KE30 cable. Loop it once around the brake master and its a perfect length. Never had a single issue with it and its worked out fine on numerous cars since.

Nope, talking about a 3sgte Conversion, throttle body is at the very front of the engine bay, need as much length as possible...

    Thanks anyway

3SGTE and 4AGE throttle locations are in similar positions (Intake Drivers Side).
KE70 is the best for those.

I think you may be better of in your case getting a custom one made up. Take the AE86 one out (so the pedal end is correct) and you should be able to get one made up to any length.

MX73 cressida, or a model of Landcruiser might do it, best to look at the pick and pay. Cruiser ones are long.

the housing should fit with little modification, but the inner cable you might have to source from a motorbike/bicycle shop, and knarp the end.

    mr2 are longest i think.....

Get some flexible tubing, ie fishtank tube, cut it to approx length, then go hunting at your favourite wreckers.

    EASY!
The spanner in my avatar is actually a 16mm, that's why it's still new

Magna or camira? (i forget which) would be long enough to make it to other side of engine bay, running along the front... or is in KE10

If you want to make your own then here is the basic rundown:

This method uses bicycle parts, just got to use the good quality stuff - not for extra strength but for the smooth operation it provides (don't buy the cheap rubbish that is pre packaged as the housing has no liner and the wire is not rolled so it's always got high friction when used).

MTB Inner brake wire (Shimano or equivalent quality) - $4
Brake cable outer housing (Shimano or equivalent quality) - $4/ft
New cable stop for the accelerator pedal end (bike shop or tuning shop will have these, most tuning workshops have them and they tend to be neater than the bike shop derived item) - $3
Some heatshrink to make it look all pro and neat ~$0.50

    Tools required:

Some good cable cutters to get nice clean cuts.
    Butane torch or lighter.
    Spanners.

Using those items listed above you simply cut the inner wire on your old setup remove the two end pieces from your old cable housing to reuse and then trim the new inner and outer cables to the required lengths. Some heat is needed to remove the crimped/threaded end section from your old cable housing.

The new outer cable is a smaller OD than the old cable so you simply put some heat shrink on the end for a neat fit and then add heat shrink over the outer/end peice overlap to make it look neat.

The MTB inner wire has an end almost identical to the throttle end on your original item so it works perfectly without any modifications. The other end at the accelerator is where you fit the cable stopper which is just a small bolt with a hole in it and a nut or grub screw to hold the cable.

When cutting the outer cable it pays to take care and get a really clean straight cut and then use a sharp point to open up the inner cable liner (where the inner wire passes through) that usually gets squashed during the cut.

Then fit to car, make any minor adjustments at the threaded adjuster on the outer housing.

That's it, dead easy and cheap. If done correctly it will look factory spec and can be any length you like.
