Default Help needed with identification of aftermarket L.S.D.

    Hi

Recently picked up a lsd diff out of a is200 toyota Altezza, was advertised as a trd lsd unit inside, but on disasembly im not so sure.
So here are some pic and Id love some help in working out who it is made by.

This is the only marking of possible identification, and it reads "20540". Ive googled it as many differant ways as I can think of but no real leads.

Note the cam profil, looks to me like a 1-way with quite an agresive lockup. (The rear angle of the cam is not 90%, but I see it as way to steep to produce any seperation force under braking so I dont think this diff is 1.5-way).
One of my main ressons for douting (spelling) this as a trd unit is that their 41301-SE100 part number as listed for the altezza brings up the selictive (spelling ) dif that you can change the pre-load setting on, this is not on the unit I have.
Can seem to fine wether or not the trd unit is 1.5 or 2-way ?

Note the 8 clutch plates on each side,16 total, (not including the pre-load rings), Im pretty sure I came across a web page,(cant find it now) stating that as the number of plates the new KAAZ "Solid" LSDs had for the is200, but although the unit looks very, very similar to the KAAZ ones, KAAZ only lists a 2-way option, no 1 or 1.5-way, and the part number for the KAAZ is DAT2090.

    Profile of the cluch plates.

Wouldnt it be nice if the maker just stamped there name in it

Just to note straingly the unit looks just like the Spoon item for the Honda S2000, Who makes them ?

    Any help would be great
    Thanks
    Timon

Spoon lsd for s2000 at www.inlinefour.com/spoons2lsdki.html

KAAZ Limited Slip Diff Centre Assembly, VT-VY Commodore, at www.capa.com.au/ls1_driveline.htm

    Interesting isnt it....

My unit does not appear anything like the other major brands i know of or have seen while looking in to this, e.g. cusco, AT...whatever it is.

Ive heard a rummer that the auto had an option of the mechanical lsd ? Peoples thoughts?
Personaly i cant see this as being oem.

its a plate viscous diff, it locks up from friction between the plates. a mechanical LSD works on gears only. ie a helical LSD, or quaife ATB (although ATB isnt technically an LSD)

just typing "lsd 20540" will do it for google too, sadly the number doesnt appear to have much to do with diffs though.

As for cleaned it up, no just wiped the excess oil off, i fell bad as its actual getting dirtyer.

    Why do you ask ?

Will look at my TRD LSD box for you today hopefully (just have the box not the diff, the factory Altezza one I bought came in it).

I know this is an extremely old thread but meh. I had a similar problem with an almost identical diff. The 5 digit number stamped on this one is similar to mine which turned out to be an ATS unit. (Apparently Kaaz dont stamp their diff housings) ...If you still want to know what it is, email [email protected] with that number and see what they say. My guess is its an ATS 1-way "Metal" LSD. Good luck.
