    Default JZZ30 Electrical Problem

Ok here's the deal - JZZ30 running fine park it one night nothing changed. Go to start it up the next day and it idles rough as guts so turn it off, check under the hood everything seems fine.

Try to start it back up again and it won't start, it just cranks over and over.

Now the interesting thing is - the negative lead for the battery (where it's crimped into the clamp part) smokes as soon as it starts to crank and continues to do so until you stop. It refuses to start.

I have tried unplugging the igniter with same result, have pulled the ECU and checked for leaking caps, and have also tried running a negative jumper lead straight from the battery terminal to the block to rule out a bad earth.

At this stage from the info i've gathered i am thinking it is either the starter or the alternator playing up drawing to much current or having a wiring short or some other failure.

Is there anything else i should consider before removing these from the motor to get inspected at an auto electrician? Fuel pump?

i had this exact same problem.

turned out to be a bracket holding the door control box on the drivers side had fallen down, and was shorting the contacts on the back of the ignition barrel.

this in turn made the car run really shitty, while not blowing any fuses or fusible links.

when a new ignitor didnt fix the problem, i chucked in some new plugs and ran it for a while and it righted itself...

so who knows, could be a million and one things.

Alternator doesnt draw current, it supplies it.

    Has the problem occured again?

My best bet is crank angle sensor has gone faulty.

Fuel pump ecu in the rear right of the car is buggered , very common but bridge the FP and BATT terms in the check conecctor first to se if this fixes it , if it does then yes fuel pump ecu .,. i May even have one you can buy also.

Fuel pump ECU is a brand new unit from toyota they got it only a few weeks ago. I tried to say it was the same thing last week though I still say the new unit could be buggered...

Alright tried a few more things today, tried bridging the Fp and +B pins on the diag port as done before to see if by some chance the 1 month old fuel ecu had died... exact same problem.

    Decided to try pull codes from diagnostics and when switched ignition to 'on' the display came up with the following message;

    Anyone know what that says?

Tried checking the listed error messages but none were the same on this link -

Well OD light just constantly flashes in diag mode... so i'd say that means there's no errors..

Completely stumped with this now, will be calling auto leccy tomorrow and possibly getting the car towed if he can't suggest anything.
