devcon...?
I'm after suggestions for the strongest farking glue to stick the new alloy panels to the floor and sides of the racing car.
They'll be riveted as well, but I want the glue to be very good, expecially on the floor as it gets a very hard time.

you don't want something that is too rigid, as it will crack.. dunno how hard epoxy gets over time, but it may not stand up to the flexing perhaps?
you also don't want anything acidic.
what do bonded panel car makers use? a polyurethane of sorts?

Hi Bill,
On our Fsae car last year we did exactly this, stresses aluminium panel between a spaceframe square section. It was rivited to some steel tabs welded to the spaceframe and bonded with an epoxy called 'Megapoxy' which was bloody strong stuff.
The guy who investigated the different types did his research fairly well.
At one stage we hit a large stone on the panel (it was a floortray) and it put a fair dent in the panel but didn't break the bond.
My brother in law (to be) is a builder and he uses some tough glue to glue stuff to cement. The cement chips off before the glue. Even though it is rigid I don't see it cracking. I can find out the name if you like.
BTW bit off topic but how hard is it to become a jumbo pilot and is it as cool as it sounds?
Hello.

Bill I have used 8115 3M panel bonding adhesive here on a few projects to good effect.
It has a hi shear strength but not so good in peel .
Heres a link

we use a lot of there products here on the airport,
the other stuff that comes to mind is Sikaflex

My little brother uses it to hold the side panels on the truck bodies he builds
....just dont use it to hold engine mounts together because it doesn't work. ask CoFF33!![]()

We have used some of the (loctite) hysol structural adhesives for bonding carbon parts. I can't remember the exact product though.
