Not necessarily.
Depends on how they've set it up
would that be the same for me using a wolf?Originally Posted by CrUZida

After wiring about 30 microtechs I have to say at least 20 of them have had the wrong wiring diagrams, usually the CAS wiring but often the coil pack wiring is backwards as well. ie swap 1 and 4 and 2 and 3 cylinders on a 4 cly, but only if you sure everything else is right and you have spark.
For anyone with future problems with the crank sensor if the orange light on the microtech (between the green and red) is flashing when cranking the motor the CAS is wired correctly. Don't have a hand controller or laptop pluged in for this as sometimes it stops flashing when something is plugged in.
If you get desperate just try random combinations of the 4 wires and crank breifly until the light starts to flash.
Microtechs also have a test mode that will fire the injectors and spark so you can check ignitor wiring and injectors. This works without the CAS even connected. under setup and the option for the number of cylinder set it to 0 and it will go into test mode. however don't do this with the fuel pump connected it will totally fill your motor with fuel
also o2 sensor on microtechs does nothing other than put an inaccurate A/F reading on the display
Sorry to digress, but how inaccurate are we talking?Originally Posted by camrygt?

it's narrowband so it is just as useful/less as an autometer a/f guage
yeah pretty much
only accurate between about maybe 14.2 and 15.2 or so to one, so no use on boost
I wasn't sure if that was it or there was something inaccurate about the way it reads stuff. I'm only interested in the feature when tuning cruise anyway.

Haha, just because the light is flashing doesn't mean the CAS is wired correctly!Originally Posted by camrygt?

perhaps not all ways but in every car I have wired I have never had the light flash and the engine not run properly.Originally Posted by CrUZida
The orange light doesn't just indicate indicate that there is a signal it actually won't flash if for example the 4 times and 1 times pickups are swapped (not related to 1J here)
So I presume if you are desperate it is a start to getting you out of trouble.
It does also means the microtech is sending out ignition and injector pulses which is often better than it doing nothing at all.
Nah, I just had my crank sensor wired backwards (at least I think it was the crank).
It ran fine until about 4000rpm, where it fucked up, got an RPM error, and the timing went base to base timing.
Took me a few months to find the error.

sounds exactly like my problem cruz.
although it only took me 2 days to find the prob
probably helped that I drove to the microtech office (5 mins from my house) and whined at them
Hahaha good stuff.
I had a whole list of preceeding events which caused me to take a long time to find the error.
But I can tell you, 12degBTDC timing at 5000rpm does not equate to a fun motor.
EDIT: Unless you are forcing a serious amount of boost in there

to be fair, all they did was give me another wiring diagram (which had the CAS and cam sensors wired up a diferent way, both of which were wrong AGAIN), but which led me to try every combination imaginable
My problem was that I thought I HAD tried every combination possible, and was running on the only combination that worked.Originally Posted by Draven
Turns out I had only tried 3 of the 4 combinations, and it was the 4th that was the perfect setup.
It was so nice to have full power after months of flatness

Haven't heard from you in a while Matty, the car has changed a heap since I saw you last.
