Anyone know what other pumps can be used instead of the ra65 one?

Mines gone and died. I know you can get them in coronas etc, but what about any newer cars. Just hard to find anything with a 22re in it where I live.

MA61 should do the job. Of course, a Walbro is a nice cheapish insurance policy.

But some early Cressys, had external pumps...

I'd suggest just about any EFI Toyota from that era would have a compatible pump. Walbro is a good idea if you want something new, the smaller ones are pretty cheap as well.

Just jacked up the car and after half hour inhaling petrol I didn't manage to siphon any out. Just put 10 litres in yesterday as well . With the external walbro I can just bolt it under the car and not bother dropping the tank to take the old internal one out...?

Try putting a bucket, under the tank, & undo the drain plug....

EFI pumps dont like sucking thru a restruction - if you fit an external pump, the existing internal pump has to be removed and the new inlet covered with a non-restricting sock filter to prevent your shiny new pump getting destroyed by inhaling tank debris.

Rather than siphon the tank, use a 1/2" socket t-bar to undo the drain bolt on the tank - have a large bucket at the ready as the fuel will come out quickly - if you're a smoker like me, i'd suggest you have a puf now, then put them out of reach before playing with large amounts of petrol.

Thanks for the replys. Ended up just dropping the tank with fuel in it. Was easier than expected. Guess I can make the decision and clean it out now.

I think I will just measure up the pump and buy new. There any pluses to having an external pump rather than an internal? Other than the fact its easy to replace...

Definitely stay internal, the tank has a built-in swirl pot which you'd lose with an external pump.

The GA61, RA65, MA61, all use the same tank...
But the GA61, '82, has an external fuel pump... So if he used the GA's Fuel pickup, should be ok...
But hard to find..
Best to use the stock toyota pump..

I'm saying his RA65 fuel tank has an in-tank pump with an in-tank swirl pot, which is a good setup and there's nothing to be gained by changing it.

I'm just going a walbro internal replacement like you suggested. Can see what you mean looking inside the tank. Never had issues cornering with low fuel, so I guess it works ok.
