    Default KYB Shocks (Dampers)

Has anybody used KYB GR2 shocks/dampers, especially in an AW11
Getting anoyed with the Boge's that Whiteline supplied ages ago for the back, they feel a bit weak in the bump valving and have way to little drop travel becase the strut shaft was substancially shorter than the standard 1. This causes the rear tyres to get unloaded alot around town, frying the back treads (or maybe it's the prodigious grunt I've bean able to sqeez from the GZE )
Either way, I found a set on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/KYB-G...spagenameZWDVW for a good price. What with the dollar doing alright, might be a resonable, cheep upgrade

I have KYB Super Special NR (front) and KYB Super Special for Street in the rear. I picked em up cheap from a wrecker. They are nice and firm, and very stable through corners.

Don't know if that helps you jsut my two cents.

BTW the rears turned out to be TEMS compatible too
They call them fingers.... but i've never seen them fing!!!!

if you want something good in there then get some koni's or bilstiens.

if you want cheap then you get the same level of performance ie cheap=average at best

spend the $$$ required and im sure you'll be happy with the result.

    cheers

Definately look internationally, Freight is not too bad at all if the items are considerably cheaper in a foreign market.

Rex purchased a full set of new Tokico Illumina adjustable dampers for His AW11 for the princely sum or $550 landed out of the US.

Will do it again in a heartbeat for the other AW11 too...

The reality is that quite a few distributors of good gear dont see it worth the point of bringing in the upper product lines. For example KYB sells the excel-G (standard replacement) or AGX (only select models) in Australia. Whereas in its native Japan they have the Climbgear, Super Special (in Circuit, Rally and Gymkhana variants) and the SR Special even more.

    It makes Rex sad...

Outside of the bilstien equpied a80, KYB are oem for toyota. Only found that out the other day, got a mate that works for a suspension importer, and toyota parts confirmed it too.

So your stockied are effectively KYB in a black disguise. Stock ones last a fair while and are decent enough quality, so the KYB sports models should be fine if you don't wan't to go crazy coilover spec.

I've got KYB's all round on my jzz30 with lowered king slinkys, and I'm fair happy.

I helped a mate install some GR2's he got sent over from the states a while back into his AW11. The cars been sold now but he really liked the shocks and from what i can remember they were pretty good for the price.

TRD are good and cheap for the AW11

yes KYB, Bilstein and TOKICO make stock and TRD shocks for toyota.
however they are different from the off the shelf KYB etc.
so dont think your getting a cheap TRD shock by buying a normal KYB one!
I DONT WORK FOR TOYOTA ANYMORE
    please, no more PMs!
