    Default Smallport 4AG intake.....

manifold.... has anyone disected it?? The common thing to do when using a smallport head in a rwd car is to cut and swap ends. BUT....has anyone cut off enough of the intake to see if the ports are directed towards the fwd intake end??? Are the ports directed to the T/B end or do they just end "square" to the intake plenum???

Btw... anyone on this list live in the Singapore market????

interesting. by looking on the outside of the bigport and smallport inlet manifold they (the runners) appear to be square with the plenum chamber.

    rarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

    my fingers were burning.

I have a cut and flipped smallport manifold on my 4agte.

I didnt get it done, i purchased it like this.

The runners were cut just below the collecting part. The plenum was then flipped around to make a fwd manifold rwd.

This is a good way of doing it if your going NA because the idle up ports and the vaccum ports arent stuffed around with. When you cut and shut the fwd manifold and remount the Throttle body you have to redrill and relocate the vaccum and idle up holes. (pre and post TB)

Bugger it, I'm going to give it a go. Got a spare smallport manifold.

What do you reckon the best way to chop it straight is?

Another advantage of chopping at the runners not mentioned yet:

You can take some material out, lowering the top of the manifold a bit. Gives some more clearance: might allow you to use a different strut brace or something.

Think i saw it on a clubman(where height can be an issue)

    Cheers, Beak.

I dont think he will have pics of it getting done since he didnt do it.

There are some downsides to this that people havent mentioned also.

When you cut and flip them at the runners, unless both faces are completely flat, you will end up getting weld slag inside them. The problem here is that as the runners curve and the 4th runner is all the way inside the plenum, you cant get inside with a die grinder or whatnot to clean this up.

Now you could always change your weld settings so you get less penetration but then your just weakening it.

On the other hand, a throttle body cut and shut still allows you to get in there and clean up the weld.
