    Default W50 in a W40 case?

    I want to change my 12r 4 speed to a 5 speed
I would like to use a W40 case but use the internals and extension houseing from a W50 as the slave cylinder mounts are cast into the case of the W40.
Any one know if this can be done?
    Thanks Scott

    Hi,

Not sure. You need to see the internals of both gearboxes.

    Check this thread.....

Isn't the bellhousing removable? (it has been on all the W40's and W50's I've had)

    Have you 100% got a W40 and not a L 40 , they did have a change around RT80 era.

    Yeah definately W40.
clutch slave cylinder is mounted on the body of the W40,which is different to my W50,I would prefer to have those mounts so I was hoping to put the w50 internals in the w40 case.Have done some research and the bearing that hold the 3 shafts are the same between both boxes but thats all the info i could find, hence this post.
    Thanks Scott

Yes you can.W 40 has the provisions on the output shaft to put the fifth gear assembly on.
This was one of the first things I did on block release at Tech about 25yrs ago when we were doing gearboxes and diffs.
    Cheers Brett.
