    Default alternator wiring????

hey guys got a mitsubishi brand alternator on my 13b rotor that appears to have 2 spade pins and the obvious + battery connection, is there any way to determine what the 2 spade plugs go to? Am i correct in assuming one is ignition 12V and the other is earth and if so how can i tell which way round? or is it something else.

Its got a built in regulator if that makes a difference.

    Cheers

Are the two spade pins the same size? No markings on the housing to determine which one is pos/neg either?

Ill guess that it was previously running with that alternator so you could always get a multimeter and test continuity between the wires that plugged into each spade and ign +12v and ground and see if that solves your problem. Im assuming you do know which wire went where on the alternator but your not sure which wire is what though.

both spades are same size yeah.
This alternator was running on this motor at some point in time, however the motor and car had no wiring installed whatsoever when i bought it, ive wired everything from scratch but im unsure what to do here. If one was an earth i wonder if a continuity test to the housing would suffice...or whether it goes to the windings inside.
Alternators have always been trickiy to me, maybe i'l just try and guess

My thoughts would be voltage sense and charge light, but don't take my word for it

    Tried googling Mitsubishi alternator wiring?

Maybe its easier to just get a mazda one and be done with the guessing game. Otherwise im all out of ideas, all the best figuring it out

    You would be correct.

same plug as a lot of nissans and stuff.

Can't recall which one is which of the top of my head but here's how to tell.

With the engine not running take a test light, ( multimeter is no good for this)
connect the clip to the battery power, either at the alt or direct to batt +,
test the terminals, only one of them will light up the test light.

That terminal is the warning light terminal.
The other is batt sense whih should be looped onto the alt main oputput stud.

    Hey there....

one is ignition power/ straight power can connect straight to batter post on alternator but best to connect to ignition or to battery....

the other wire is a charge/warning light.... needs to be connected to a no more then 5watt globe smaller wattage the better, i run a 1watt globe in my setup for the old valiant when i converted the alternator over, the light needs to come on while starting the car then go off.. that energisers the alternator and tells it to start working.... you could also run just a 12v signal on a switch but if u leave the switch on and turn the car off the motor will keep running as its still energised....

if its a T plug.... the top of the T is power and the I part is the warning light

if thats not the plug let me know what it is and i can tell you where all the wires go....

    hope this helps
