Default Clutch pedal feel - slave mods needed?

Hi all, had the boxes swapped over in the Starlet GT late last week. The clutch feels identical to before the change and there was nothing wrong with the fingers, fork or throwout bearing whilst out, however there is very little pedal movement and it feels as though the clutch isnt disengaging properly. It has an exedy cushion button clutch in it which i know have little travel.
Should i put a longer rod into the slave to bring the pedal back up and get a bit more feel/throw? I know people have had to do this, particularly in celicas and gt4s.

    Cheers,

    Stu

You say there is very little pedal movement, does the clutch pedal not go to the floor ?? does it feel like its hitting a brick wall when you say the travel is short ?? Is there a lot of slack in the pedal before it feels like its doing something, you could have air in the system if there is a lot of slack feel in the pedal .. Need more info ..

Depending on how your clutch slave cylinder is set up, some slave cylinder pistons bottom out in the housing & have an adjustable pushrod so changing the rod can make a difference to how the clutch works, other's the slave Piston just stop's anywhere down the bore of the cylinder & so putting a longer rod in is not going to do anything ..

Pedal is low to the floor and hits the firewall - It doesnt feel like a spongy pedal that you'd usually get. I'll give it a bleed and see if it comes up a little. Will re-advise of style of slave when im near the car

You can adjust the pedal on the pedal box side. Otherwise you may require a larger master cylinder if the pedal doesnt travel far enough.

As above, have a look under the dash. The rod going from the pedal into the clutch master should be threaded, with a nut to stop it from moving. Back the nut off and adjust the rod. As long as you aren't already out of adjustment you should get more movement out of it like that...

I'd be checking the pedal height stop first if the pedal is low, the threaded pushrod controls freeplay (which does affect stroke but not pedal height). Loosen up the pushrod freeplay first, then adjust the pedal height stop and get the pedal back in line with the brake, and then re-adjust the pushrod to get the right amount of freeplay.

It is possible that the pushrod is threaded in to the pedal so far that it has pulled the pedal down towards the floor (ie negative freeplay effectively) but I doubt it.

I would say its got air in the system, as it sounds like nothing was changed to the car except for the gearbox & so really the pedal height should not have changed, except if its got air in the system ..

Don't start adjusting anything until you have given it a good bleed first ..
