    Default 4age burning oil?

hey, got a twinky with a 7-rib big port. had it for around 5 weeks and have gone through a half a tank of oil. It blows absolutely no smoke and i cant see any visable leaks.
Is this normal for these motors? has anyone else had this problem? The motor is supposedl a low mileage motor, im guessing it was rebuilt, i know its got at least 30 thou on the clock

it shou;ldnt be going though that much oil..

is there any smoke at startup ? as the valve stem seals often get pretty average and will leak oil into the combustion chamber and be burnt at startup but usually no more leaks...

give it a compression test and checl what each cyl is at.

also if there any oil arund the bottom of the dizzy ? as this is a common leak spot and often the oil leaking can fall onto the exhaust manifold and be burt off before you will see it falling on the ground.. dependant on how bad the leak is of course

Is it using half a tank of oil or is it going to half way between the empty and full marks on the dipstick? Those marks usually reference about the top 500ml of oil in the engine...

Depending on what car you have the engine in it could be swallowing a fair bit of oil through the inlet tract (from the cam cover breather), especially if you converted it from FWD to RWD. Do you have a catch can fitted? If so the missing oil is probably in there.

Again a compression and leakdown test (most mechanics can do this for you) will tell you a lot about the basic condition of the engine.

    Cheers,

    Terry.
