Default Hilux/Peugot/Strut angles.. Database, Questions & Theory.

After looking at the few different threads on the Hilux/peugot/corona i still had many questions..?
What is the angle difference, between the struts..?
What struts to use with what, steering arm..?
If the RA60/65's strut & brakes, was a good upgrade on RA28/40..?
Why is camber so stuffed & how to over come this..?
& with the use of XT130 struts, on a RA60 or G/MA61, you would need to use, the steering arm from same strut.. But the "End stop" is different spot..? & thus changing the camber..
So after looking at the local wrecker i found a set of MX32's struts & arm's, these had the twin spot's on them, so the Hilux four's fit as well.. But camber..?
so i got to messuring the different angle's of the set's i have..

Angle between strut tube & disc/hub wheel face..

    .. .. . .. . stock .. GA61 .. RA60 .. MX32 .. XT130 / RT132
    MA61 . . 10.5 . . . 1.0 . . . 1.5 . . . 2.5 . . . . 3.0 .
    GA61 . . . 9.5 . . . . 0 . . . 0.5 . . . 1.5 . . . 2.0
    RA60 . . . 9.0 . . . . + . . . . 0 . . . 1.0 . . . . 1.5
    MX32 . . . 8.0 . . . . + . . . . + . . . . 0 .
    XT130 . . 8.5
    RT132 . . . 8.5
    RA28/40 . . 8.4 . . . . . . . . + 0.5 ? . . . . . 0.0 ? . . . ?

Thus if a MX32's strut is used on a MA61, it will give you an incease of -2.5 deg. & the use of an RA60's strut, would give a -1.5 deg. increase...
& as for the XT130, strut & steering arm, which has a different offset, it would give you a, -4 to -8 deg. increase in camber..

Next Q:- with the MX32's steering arm, having the same bolt spaceing, as the RA60's, but has a different offset, hence will change the camber..
i've looked at the offset ofthe RA60 to XT130 to GA61 to MX32, & the MX' has a similar, offset to the XT, & GA.. The RA60's pulls the bottom of the strut into the car...
Q:- So if the MX32's steering arm, was used on a RA60's strut.. What camber should i get if fitted to a RA28/40..?
Q:- would the MX's lower ball joint, fit the RA's lower control arm..? as the MX's steering arm, has a larger hole than the RA's..
Also, with the use of a Hilux/Peug/Cressy, up grade on a xA6x Celica/Supra.. Is this increase in camber Ok..? & if so how much is to much..?

    any help please..

I did some, messurements of the steering arms, for the ofset...

    0.0 is the centre line
    X/RT13x = +0.5
    MX32 = +0.5
    G/MA61 = -0.5
    RA60/RT142 = -0.1
    messurements are aprox..

Thus differance between RA28/40 & RA60's arm is, +1.5 deg.
The use of a RA60's steering arm, on a G/MA61 will give you a +0.5 deg. camber
The use of a MA61's arm on a RA60/65, will give you a -0.5 deg. camber

The use of a RA60's strut on a MA61, will give you a -1.5 deg camber, if on stock, steering arm...
But if you also, use the RA60's steering arm, it will bring it back to, -1.0 deg. camber....

    GA,

Some very interesting numbers there to digest. Good work as these numbers can prove usefull for us when added to thoughts on all the other front end geometry numbers, scrub, toe, etc, etc.

For me a good camber figure to aim for on the street using tyres that are on the harder side of the performance range would be -1.0 to -1.5 negative.

The better the tyre grip the more negative you go (to a point of course). No point having -2 negative if the tyres are twenty years old as all they do is slide, even at -1.0 (like mine do).

So any combination that gives more negative camber is the one to go for. Also look at the lower arm lengths and get a combination that gets more negative camber again.

    Regards

    Rodger

    more numbers:-
    steering arms.. factory numbers..
    GA61 '82 - '83 .. -24010..
    MA61 '83 - '85 .. -14100..
    RT142, RA6x etc. '82 - '86 .. power -14070, .. non -14090..
    xT13x, RA23/28/40 .. -14011
    So left & right...eg.. 45611-14011 & 45612-14011... for RA23-40's

    Strut length's.....................spring cup up.........
    RA60/65, etc. 423mm total.. . 72mm...
    xT13x, 429mm total.. . . . . . . 74mm...
    MX32, 430mm total.. . . . . . . 66mm...
    GA61, 423mm total.. . . . . . . 60mm...
    MA61, 420mm total.. . . . . . . 60mm...

So if you use, a RA60's strut, on a MA61, you will lower the car, by 12mm, aprox..
But you will get, -1.5 deg' camber..
So use RA60's, steering arm, to bring it back to, -1.0 deg' camber... but also, reduce the track, by 10mm..

Also, if you use, a RA60's strut, on a GA61, (no flairs supra) again you will lower the car 12mm, aprox..
But only get, -0.5 deg' camber..
But if you also use, the RA60's, steering arm, it will go back to, 0.0 camber, & reduce the track, by 10mm..
