I'd be happy to compare notes after the tune is done, I'll talk to you in a couple of weeks.

Not a problem, just keep it off boost while running inferior fuel. This isn't hard to do when you're travelling at constant speed for hours on end. Besides, on the highway I have a range of > 600km (shouldn't be much worse with the new setup, still has closed loop) so that gets me most of the way there before I have to use crap fuel.

Righto, this discussion is about E5 pump fuel though, no methanol involved.

    Sounds good

You going to have it all tuned prior to dragtime yeah?

BTW what sort of numbers are you shooting for?

    What is mod list now?

If you cranked that turbo to its limit I reckon close to 550rwhp or so would be doable with those cams.

    I'm curious about a comparison between 98 octane E10 and the 100oct E5

I've read articles where they've proven the E10 98 (boost 98 from united servos) made about 20rwkw (288 -> 310 or so) more than with bp ultimate in a gtr, and boost 98 is actually cheaper!

still, I'd expect the 100 oct E5 to come out ahead, can't imagine it being by that much though, despite the price difference.

the Ethanol fuels will only make more power if you can tune for it.. Otherwise you might actually lose some power specially at part throttle, as the higher the octane, the slower the burn...

Least, thats what i was informed .

Yep, tune is booked in for the 25th, hence the mad rush to get the car back together in time. I'm hoping for 500rwhp but really I'll be happy with whatever can be safely extracted from it. Even 400rwhp will be silly fast.

Yep, plus MSD DIS4 and a bit of head porting.

Maybe, depends how good this E5 stuff really is! I suspect I'd need a good dose of toluene to get that far though.

It was October, but it turns out that schedule was somewhat optimistic. I only just started putting the fuel system together last night.

Heh, well, back OT ... E85++ ftw. I'm going to use my old set of carbs to run on metho to begin with. I'm pretty sure I can jet the bugger large enough, but the venturi size may be an issue. Then there's timing and compression ... :-)

How much does methylated spirits cost per litre when bought in bulk? Can you get fuel-grade metho?

LOL no methanol for the Supra, I just spent a fortune on the fuel system and I don't want to do it again!

You mean you built a totally new fuel system and didn't make it methanol proof? Heh

Rofl, metho is 5% water, good luck. Metho from shops is "fuel grade" as you can use it for fuel, but it doesnt suit internal combustion engines.
FYI: "metho" is 90 something percent ethanol, with added methanol to make it poisonous (undrinkable), but the ethanol used has a minimum 4% water content.

    Fuel grade Ethanol is expensive.
Why would you use Ethanol over Methanol, methanol is $1.20 a liter and the price isnt going up, its also commonly used you can ask an ENGINEER how to prep a car, not randoms on a forum.
