    Default hands free installation

    Hi,

odd ball question here. Mate is selling his VX commo. It had this crazy old school nokia hands free kit that goes through the stereo. It was just hanging there and he wanted to get rid of it so he chopped 3 wires.

There was 1 wire going to the mic up near the drivers head. And there was 2 wires in the phone holder.

Now his stereo still has power but it just says TEL (telephone I assume ) and can't do anything else.

Anyone have any experience with these things. Looking the easiest way to get the radio working. Don't want to pull the dash out as it is getting picked up tomorrow.

    Thanks in advance

Id say it has another wire just like the on which will power the amplifier/power aerial but when its either earthed or power is supplied it will switch the radio into tel mode. I wonder if the handsfree kit has another control box somewhere.

Ive never setup one like this but im just assuming.

There is a 4 pin plug under the center console on the passenger side. This is the phone wiring plug. Disconnect all the wires from this plug and everything should be sweet.

To find the plug, just remove the lower panel on the passenger side of the center console.

haha yeh as said above you need to unplug the 'black box' which you have left in there from the plug.

Easiest way to remove it properly. Drop down the glove box (take it out if you want as it makes it easier) then there are 3 screws holding the side panel up to the inside edge of the glove box compartment. Then that panel will drop down and you'll see the plug with 4 wires in it. You'll probably find the black box shoved under there too!

I think basically one of the extra lines is a mute line. Instead of saying 'mute' it has a phone input.

But if there is a proper way to uninstall it you're better of doing that. Damn commodores.

    I think he's gathered that!

The reason it's doing it is because he has left the black box in there and just cut the data cable, so either the wires in the data cable are touching or there is no longer a "loop" there that there was while the cradle was plugged in. This tells the black box that the ***phone is in use*** therefor sending out a mute/input signal for the factory stereo!

found the box. unplugged it. Still in TEL mode?

Didn't pull centre console panel off as I could reach it without doing that. Will pull it off now and check we have the right one but it certainly sounds like it is.

POS commodores. Can't even pull the glovebox out? Pulled out about 15 screws so far and not moving?

vx comodore the glove box clips in. just lower it and pull it towards you.
vt como had a pin in the back right hand corner you had to lever out with a flat blade. pretty sure vx was first of the clip in.
once you have removed the box the lower console panel to the right of the box has 2 screws wich you undo to reveal a 6 wire plug. the 2 blue wires are + and - speaker. black is earth, yellow with black trace is mute, yellow is acc and orange is constant.

if with these wires disconnected it still says tel then he may have fucked the stereo when he cut the other wires.

    ALL FIXED!

It had the hidden pin in the RHS so the 15 screws I took off were pointless

Pulled a 5 pin plug from the black box and all good again.

    Thanks again all!
