If your looking for a bit more power and thinking engine swaps the MA61 chassis is a much better option for doing those sort of conversions than the RA60.
I wouldn't fiddle around with the 21RC and 22R engines as they are old and are bound to be a big money pit and take as long as JMCFs project decade.
So i say just keep the ol celica running well for as long as you need it, buy an MA61 and drop an engine in that and replace bushes and refresh the brakes and suspension while your at it.

If you like it so much then look into a 1JZ if it fits or a 1G as that has been done a few times. Search is your friend

I'm in the same boat, we're prepping an RA60 as a rally car. The 3S-GTE is a good option, but it WILL cost you to get it in there for a few reasons, maily it wasn't designed as a north/south engine, so there's fiddling to be done to get it all sweet. How handy are you with tools? Remember, this is a MAJOR project. Forget the 2J, it's way too much power for the chassis, and it'll cost you in ways you can't imagine. What do you really want from the car, what are your aims and ambitions? For a really nice motor on a good budget, I'd get the 1UZ-FE. They're dirt cheap, nice and light, and would suit the RA60 down to a tee. Lots of torque, NA drivability...

If you can't decide between a 2JZ or a 22R for your engine conversion project, it's pretty obvious you have no clue what's involved in an engine conversion. I suggest you do your research and learn about the ins and outs of engine swaps before you make any decisions; before then you're just daydreaming.

FYI though, a proper 2JZ conversion with all the required supporting mods will probably see no change out of $20k. Still interested?

    Precisely.
    22R makes 140-odd hp, maybe support 300.
    2J makes 300 and support 800+.
1G makes 200ish, support 400, cost 2k or so if you do heaps of it yourself...

    1UZ cost 3-4k (with a good manual), makes 220ish, support 700...

But these are all massively different engines, with their own pitfalls and dramas. Don't go too extreme, just take it easy...

focus your research on doing a 1G-GTE conversion there are lots of articles and heaps of threads on it here and on the old forums.

if you truly like your RA60 dont spend a dollar more on that 21R-C put in a 1G and off you go.

It will go in, but it's more money, more time and a lot more effort. Honest question here, I'm not trying to flame you, but what's the fastest car you've owned/driven? 400hp is an awful lot, I know it doesn't sound it after reading all the shiny articles about 1000hp this and 1200hp that, but it's up to and surpassing the limits of a driveable street car. 250rwhp in a 1000kg car is enough to start serious wheelspin problems, and if you aim for significantly more, you also start run into major reliability issues.

If you are serious about an engine install, before you even start, buy every bushing you can, the best springs available, some Koni shocks and front/rear whiteline swaybars. The stock suspention is JUST enough for the 21R, and by now it's pretty worn out anyway. Then at the very least rebuild your brake callipers and get some EBC pads with new rotors.

The above will cost 2k at the very most, and could well save your life, as well as making the driving experience something to savour. Remember: even if you can't boot it very often, you'll notice the handling every minute you're driving, and there's nothing more rewarding.

The most power ive driven would be a 700hp skyline the suspention is a aftermarket one dont know what brand but im working on it all is a project car so i dont really care what i have to do to it
