Ok ive found out the difference between a s1 and s2 so far can be seen in the grills and below the headlights. Also the s2's dont have the fugly grey/silver heater control panel!
Surely there are other differences..
Hey all!!
Ive finally sold the tank of a falcon!! I was searching ebay, forums, tradingpost every day for a few months looking for something decent to come myway.. Out of pure luck! I came across my new 87 sx celica..
With alll my cars i like to know the changes in models, or years etc. I was searching info on the st162r's and found out there was a series 2, not only that but some parts on the s2 are different compared to the s1. I have had a search but cant seem to find a post stating the differences between models, even the miniscual tiny things.. im very interested to know.. when did the s2's come into production?
I havent searched for this yet, but if you know it would help me outI read that there was a digital dash for these model celicas? Was there a climate control option aswell?
Its 1:10am amd im still pretty excited about the celica so ill be searching for awhiel yetAny help would be great guys!! Thanks!!!!

The series 2's came out in August 1987. Some of the differences are:
295cc injectors vs 250cc, with quick release plugs.
12mm bolts in the rear struts vs 10mm where it bolts to the rear hubs.
Different grill/tail light
Tighter turning circle (not 100% confirmed, but possibly due to a different steering rack)
Newer-shape/style indicator stalks that look much nicer and less dated.
Slightly different inlet plenum, with an extra pipe that connects in between the air box and throttle body.
Different ECU to suit the bigger injectors
Some changes to wiring (different temperature sender and plug for ECU, removed 80A ALT fuse and replaced with fusible link, with actually was a running change mid-way through the S1 production run)
Different mags, with IMHO look 2000x better than the fugly S1 rims
Some minor interior changes I think (Including that heater panel)
And thats all I can think of at the moment.
the rear wiper sits vertically on s2, s1 it's horizontally
electric antenna on s2, s1 have the good plastic bendy ones
s1 front hubs have camber adjustments in them, s2 do not
power windows
cruise control (I believe this wasn't around until series 2?)
central locking
o2 sensor relocated to under the motor, also changed to a 4 wire over a 1 wire (series 2 has the 4 wire and is under the chassis)
hence a different exhaust manifold and cover plate
the EGR pipe is routed through the head rather than from the exhaust manifold

You sure about the electric antenna? My S1 had (albeit rusted and non-fuctioning) a factory electric antenna, the module was in the boot mounted on the factory bracket.
Also power windows and central locking I believe are supposed to be factory fitment from release, but didn't appear until mid 1986. I need to get some more info to confirm that though.
Not so sure anymore
I miss my bendy, unbreakable antenna from the series one... it was much nicer than my broken electric series 2 one haha
Power windows I've never seen in a series one unless they've been added in, I think they might have been factory fitment in the JDM models or something... the series one gt4 had power windows (slightly different to series 2 power windows too which is interesting) but then obviously they were JDM

I'm pretty sure Adrian (TRD162) had factory power windows, central locks and cruise control in his first S1. He also had the sportier (white lightening) seats... his car must've been a dealer demo or something. But yeah, those options must've been available from '86 they're just really rare.![]()
When I bought my 1st celica sx (series 2 89model) i came across a few STs and they didnt have it power windows.
I think SX models came with power windows compare to the ST which didnt. But someone will correct me if I am wrong.

How hard is it to convert to cruise?? I never knew you could get cruise for a manual.
