I will not be able to get my car rego'd till the 16th.
Sorry guys, but the money tree is not looking good to rego the beast right now.
especially considering it costs like $1300! DAMN!
But yeah, is everyone good to go on the 17th or 18th? or do you wanna make it
the weekend after? I will PM all the involved people when I get some time, but
in the meantime, post up on here your preference for either day.
Sorry again to stuff you around guys, it'll be worth the wait tho!

yeah its the weekend after that. ive got exams until then.
but certainly put me down as interested,
1998 Hilux stock as a rock
i could probaly do with some new rubber before then anyway ive got AT's on there but they are getting towards tohe end of their life and i couldnt imagine they will be too tops in the dirt.
edit: oh and thoughts, ive currently got cactus Dunlop Road Gripper AT's on there (205R16C) on splits. i was wanting to keep the splits but was thinking of replacing with dunlop Super Grippers if for nothing other then my spare spare (6th) has a near new tyre on it. any other suggestions ?
How much can you get the Gripper's for mate?
this "new" tyre, how long has it been a "spare" for? IE how long has it been sitting
under the tray, not being used?? I've found long-term "spares" rarely make good offroad
tyres as they tend to perish and crack with a bit of punishment when used as "drive" tyres.
Why do you wanna keep the splitties? Sunrasias look soo much better, plus you get
a much better choice of tyres, plus sunnys are only like $60 ea NEW.
But if you wanna keep yo splitties, I'd go for some cooper's they last longer than pretty
much any other 4WD tyre, and in a width to suit splitties, there is not much point getting
big expensive muddies as they will still only be a 205 - 215 at max which is not going to
go much further in mud than a decent AT in that size.
If you wanna go on the CHEAP. which I used to do, get 16" LIGHT TRUCK TYRES.
They last for friggen AGES, and I took them offroad HEAPS of times and they were quite
adequate on all surfaces but thick mud, but only a full MUDDY will get you out of that.
As for muddies...
Goodyear MTRs are good, so are BFGoodrich Wranglers if you want a semi-road tyre.
for all out grip, Mickey Thompson Baja Claws, or better yet Super Swampers FTW! But don't try and go over 80km/h wif em on! ROFL
Cheers,
Bart
EDIT:- you could have road tyres on and you'd still go OK mate, you'd be surprised how
far you can go in low range, aired down a bit and taking the right line. Failing that, we
snatch you up. Either way = DONE DEAL! LOL

i like the splits for nothing other then i can change tyres myself when i ruin them also it means i have 6 matching wheels/tyres so ive got a good pair of spares
the spare was given to me by a mate that recently sold up his lux and it was his 6th spare. it wasnt an under tray spare and had been in his tyre rotation. probaly has about 10-12mm of tread depth on it and looks in good shape no perishing, cracking or damage. he managed to get his hilux to pretty every part of the nation bog factory on factory splits on the super grippers.
i need them to remain road suitable as the lux is my day to day vehicle with the mr2 the weekender. i dont mind spending a few quid on tyres, never have. you cant skimp on tyres they are too importatnt
i havent gone chasing a price on anything yet just becasue it hasnt been a massive priority as i ahvent had time to go driving anyhere other then work atm
i dont mind getting something that is an offroad tyre and not 100% on road but some super swampers or bajas would pretty much be unsuitable as i still need to be able to highway drive on them
the other tyre i was looking at wwas the goodyear WRANGLER TG again in 205R16C
oh and you dont happen to know if anyone makes say a 16x7 in a split ? i just like the concept of splits
Last edited by TooF; 08-11-2007 at 03:32 PM.
The only splits you can get, are the ones you have now, they came fitted to 4WD hilux's
and land-cruisers but only in "povo-pack" models. all other models got alloys of
one type or another dependent on price (and usually flared fenders to fit them inside the
body of the car legally) llok at the 80 series for instance, if it does not have flares, then
it most likely came out with the split rims.
I have never seen a Toyota split rim in anything other than the size you have, I have 4 of
them myself. But they weigh a SHITLOAD, almost double the weight of a sunrasia steel
rim!!!! you may be able to get some aftermarket rims with an external beadlock which will
do what you want. Plus you will NEVER roll a bead off your rim, and look TOUGH too!
Beadlocks I'm gonna purchase when I can be bothered too, OR I de-bead my MTRs.
(Which is yet to happen)
Mind you, I can remove and refit a 4WD tyre in the bush with another 4wd,
a screw-driver, and a can of "Start Ya Bastard"....LOL
so no real need for splitties, plus you can't get splitties that are 15 x 10!!
This is the idea...
