Yep its evil shit. It will literally bubble the paint as it reacts. I cant tell you enough to make sure you do this in a well ventilated areas and wear appropriate clothes and safety gear. Also dont leave the can in the sun or a hot shed....
so a singlet, stubbies, and some thongs is all youl need..... oh and some beer to wash down the taste of the paint remover.

try contacting a hydroblaster, we get alot of alloy stuff done by a hydroblaster cheaper and safer (some soft alloy/mag doesnt like sandblasting)
I would pay the money, i used 3 different types of strippers and the last one was from my mates business (Car detailing) it was some harsh shit, i almost past out with a cheap respirator, and it still didn't work that good, Its already been said but if you do it your self you will get half way through and wish you just forked out the dosh for blasting,
what about the baked on brake dust on the inside of the rims, how do you get that stuff off? i was thinking acid dipping or sandblasting just for that crap!
JZA70|R / 12.45 @ 111 mph.
go down to the beach, grab a mouthfull of sand an a maccas straw, sandblaster cheap spec!
Johnny, it is expensive, but that life, the more people you ring the more chance you have of finding a cheaper price, same with everything.
but GL doing it DIY, hope ya live long enuff for us to have a beer!
If you use paint stripper, a good trick that i learnt off a panelbeater mate of mine is to use heaps of stripper, then wrap the object in glad wrap/ plastic pallet wrap etc because it stops the paint stripper from drying and the fumes evaporating. apparently the fumes do as much stripping as the liquid part...... which would explain the burning sensation in your lungs!
I'll second that method... It certainly improves the performance of the paint stripper...Originally Posted by mini_andrew

The stuff I used to use to remove paint from aircraft propellers must have been made from an ultra strong Mustard, similar to that used in Mustard Gas, as it looked and smelled like mustard and burned the shit out of your nose if you breathed near it...
It made the paint and primer curl up within about 2 mins of application, and left nothing but bare metal... It was f'n strong! (But was also quite expensive which is why we used it in a special tank and could re-use it for a long time)
80 dollars is cheap. don't be such a tightarse.
I used to have to media blast things like inlet manifolds and heads etc, it's not as easy as it looks and it's a filthy job.
Im not allowed to advertise in my sig, so see the classifieds.
Mazda 1300... Rotary powered because no one would make me some 4AGE engine mounts!
What about Acid dipping?
Should be able to locate one through whitepages.
I acid dipped a 4a head about 6 months ago for a friend, only cost about $65.
Either that, or get out the wire wheel (or steel wool if you've got the patience) and go at it for a few hours.....Wear gloves though.
A few hours each wheel you mean? it really does take foreverOriginally Posted by thepeter

It definately wasn't good for you though...
i refurbed some wheels by meself a while back, raped my dremel, about 20 hours got 2 wheels, and 3/4 of another done.
i got pissed off and did the last one dodgy.
the rims are now on Kennys KE70 and they look the bomb diggity
entire cost to do them (not including the dremel) was about $70 including $50 for matty to spray em in rolls royce black 2pac.
Also, remember if you are gonna get them painted/powder coated/whatever with something that requires heat that you get it done with low temp stuff as more than likely the Volk/Work stuff is forged and the normal high temp stuff will alter the metallurgy, basically annealing them and taking away its forged strength (i hope i have said that right!)
