It is all feasible apart form the strapping the battery down. It'll need a sturdy bracket (can be had for less than $20 from a parts shop). Last thing you want is for Mr Battery to come unattached in an accident and meet Mr Head.

Worry less about how secure the lightweight plastic conatiner is fastened and more about how the battery is secured and you'll be all good.

Edit: oh and the other prob with nylon tie down straps etc is if any battery acid does splash on them they'll be stuffed and you may not be aware of it until the battery is loose.

Shouldnt do as its in the boot rather than in the cabin as it is in a RA28.
The cheapie black plastic boxes should be fine.

Would you still require it to be sealed box if you were using a drycell battery.

AFAIK yes. Same deal as what Draven said re the batteries with the vent tubes. I have one of them in a regular black box in my boot of corona (which had a non sealed aluminium panel where the seat was at time of inspection) but this is QLD & I also suspect I was let off pretty easily.

The only problem with those battery boxes from making them non sealed is the lid. The lids got a few bits that protrude allowing you to run the cables to be passed through. They also dont have any rubber underneath them to seal them which poses another problem.

If you were to buy one of these boxes, you could always trim the side bits off that stop them from being sealed and replace them with some flat plastic and then glue that on or just cut and bend the original bits and glue them in a better spot.

Then all youll need to do it get some hose, cut it through the middle lengthways, and put that on the rim of the base of the box so when the lid goes on it seals it.

Alternatively, tell the rta you and any passengers will be wearing japanese pearl diver suits whilst in the car. Problem solved

Just bought a battery and had a look around trying to find a large storage/tupperware box for it... nothing even close.
They are all far too big or too small

Looks like ill have to buy some alu and make one.

Evan a new Tupperware container would be cheaper then buying alu and getting it welded in to some sort of box.

Just ask you mum/girlfriend for a catelogue (assuming most woman have these sorts of things at hand)

Bah tupperware is too expensive to use as a bettery box!!! Something like decor or sistema from wollies or coles nice and cheap do the job perfectly at 1/5th the price of tupperware.

Well all the mercs and bimmers and the new VE commo dont have sealed batt boxes , they all use the euro battery and a vent tube so it cant be a ADR law thing.

ive had many oddysey batteries passed in cars with just brackets holding it down.

have you asked regency if you can run a sealed gell cell battery? it should pass no worries coz they dont breathe.

    cheers

In the boot on the left hand side behind a cover that looks like there should be a Jack there.

Incorrect think again, merc and BMW has the batt under the back seat, a sealed battery with breather tubes. Not a sealed compartment., Century make them as a stock item but by memory they only have the posts in one configutation so it might be worth getting the battery before you wire (if you choose this path)
