    Question RA20, 21, 22 Vs. TA22

    Hey people,

I am in the process of getting some parts for my '72 TA22 celica, I have found some fiberglass left and right gurds in japan but they state that they are for the RA20, 21 & 22 model celicas. Are these celicas identical to the TA22 model celica or are they different in some way, e.g. mounting positions of the guards, length of the bonnet etc...

    Thanks in advance,

    Nick.

A quick answer to start things off.

R is the engine series, A is the body style, 20--22 is the model progression/update.
I believe the 20, 21 and 22 all have the same sloped front and use the same basic guard shape (are interchangeable) but each has a slightly different guard lip shape. I understand that the very last 22s (late 74) have the guard lip that gives the most clearance

A 23 model moves to the flat/longer front.

I'd go for the RA-22 guard if there are the three options of the fibrglass one.

    Regards

    Rodger

    Thanks Roger,

    Thats a great help!

They do not offer any variants on the guard lip. They just offer one guard that will fit the RA20 and the RA21, which I belive will fit all TA22's from '70 - '74.

    Thanks for the reply again!

    Check out Restored Here

They do fibreglass and carbon fibre guards, bonnets, and a few other bits and pieces for the first gen celica. I believe there is also a group buy going on on the classic celicas forum in the states.

no im not after the fibreglass, just the stock panels.

so the ta25 and ta27 gaurds and bonnet should fit the ra28? will the ra29 hatch fit the 28?

i dont even know what models there are yet, like ta's and ra's, well the early ones anyway.

The ones we got over here were TA22, TA23, RA23, RA28, and theres probably a few varients like rivers rare as RA25 floating around. The two 23's are identical other than engine with the T and the R determining what got what.

    The RA25, TA27, RA28, RA29, and RA35 all share the same hatch...

The RA25 and TA27 share the same bonnet and guards...

And, the TA23, RA23, RA24, RA28, RA29, and RA35 share the same bonnet and guards...

did the round lip TA22 guards have a narrower section between teh door and front wheel?

I thought I read this somewhere, but am not sure.
