M14 dood.
Rudi
hi guys,
I was wondering if anyone knows the thread diameter at the top of most Toyota strut inserts?
Is it 12mm or 14mm?

... but the thread pitch changes.
For example, i know the thread is different between then RA28 and the RT132 struts.

not M14 because that would indicate 1.75 or 2mm pitch (not sure which one)Originally Posted by 7M-GTE MX73
but yes most are 14mm but of varying pitches.

(M14 is available in thread pitches of 1, 1.25, 1.5 and 2)

but M14 is a specific pitch (i think 1.75)
if you ask for M14 thats what you get. you should be asking for 14x1.5 or something like that (depending on the exact pitch).
its like asking for a clutch for a toyota engine, you must be more specific otherwise the guy your asking wont have a clue.

You must specify a pitch regardless...(if you asked for a M14 coarse thread, you will get M14x2, otherwise in the fine threads there is M14x1.5, M14x1.25, M14x1). A good shop will ask you which thread pitch you want since they are all regarded as M14.
Anyway, this is getting off topic.

Why exactly are you asking? Do you need to replace the nut?
If you are replacing the inserts, the new oens come with new nuts. If you are replacing the inserts with those from another model of car, they will come with new nuts to suit too...
7M-GTE MX73 I think what The Real Roadrunner was saying is that if you ask for an M14 nut, then it is assumed you are asking for an M14x1.75. Yes, there are other Metric sizes of 14 out there, but in the nuts and bolt world, if you ask for "M14" that's what you get. The M14 is referring to a specific nut/bolt pitch and thread.
