Alternative to the Expensive and Illusive JZ Clutch Fan?

Anyone have any ideas on what would be an ideal replacement for the stock clutch belt driven fan on the 2JZGTE?

As we all know, tracking down a decent fan and shroud without cracks or peices missing is a nightmare and finding a clutch for a decent price is almost as bad.

I've called castle hill toyota for prices and i was told that they wont give out or find the part number with price for me in the system and basically told me the F'off. I think the friday arvo'itess must have hit the guy hard as they're usually very friendly. After more searching ive discovered the stock price is around $290 for the fan blades alone.

Ebay has some nice and cheap fan blades for 4x4's so i thought they "might" be a relpacement option. Anyone have any idea's?

PS- I have an Aristo with a new Race Radiators radiator (alloy) with twin pull thermo's and a push type in front and they're not coping with heat soke in this weather in QLD. I need to convert to the clutch fan ASAP.

PPS- before anyone has remarks, the aristo has the hyrdo fan set-up and i removed the set-up as i changed the waterpump to the normal supra style as its cheaper ($100 compared to the hydro pump of $1400)

1UZ-FE clutch fan fits. I'm running one on my 1JZ-GTE.

I'm not sure if the OD of the fan blades is exactly the same however (I don't have a shroud), but it does bolt to the water pump OK!

Also,

JZA80 2JZ-GTE clutch fan part num is 16210-46030 (The same as 2JZ-GE, and JZZ30 2JZ-GE but nothing else on a quick search)

JZA80 2JZ-GTE Fan blades part num is 16361-46060 (Not the same as anything else with a quick search)...

Hang on wilbo , the only 1UZ clutch fan is the crown one and it runs backwards, anti clock wise , A jz one runs clockwise . The fan blades are deff different , the clutch will bolt up and work but prob not properly .

not that this answers yourt auestion, but how much troubleshooting have you done of the system? it sounds like there is somethign wrong to me, especially if you are running blow and suck fans and are still having problems. (at idle?)

could you adapt BA falcon type thermos? they are pretty serious bits of gear

Had a quick look on the EPC and I couldn't even find a 1uz that came with a clutch fan! lol

I agree tho, sounds like something else is going on...doesn't sound like it should be overheating to me!

give me some measurements and ill have a look, ones that spring to mind are 7MGTE and 1GGTE, both of which i can check tomorrow.

afaik all the toyota clutch fan water pumps had a 4 bolt pattern? whats the spacing between them? are they staggered? and whats the OD of the fan blades, and the thickeness (looking from side on), offset of the mounting surface (to the pump) would be good too.

that should cover all possibilities yes?

I once tried a 7M clutch fan on my 2JZ-GTE, no go.

I tired 5M-E and 7M-GE, both of which didn't fit...

The bolt hole PCD is 4 x ~74mm

The central spigot dimensions are ~15.9 OD x ~8.9mm high.

I converted to twin thermo's out of a corsair (because they were cheap and fit the radiator perfectly) and they kept the original stock radiator cool for about 4 months until it clogged up last month. Since then i replaced the stocko with an alloy unit and put a push fan in front of the radiator to help in traffic (hooked up to a switch).

Yesterday after about 30minutes of traffic driving it started getting heat soak, temp went up to about 100° and some times it would rise rapidly to 110° then quickly drop back down again. When i drove on the h'way it dropped to about 98° and stayed there. Turned the car off and it started coming out of the overflow.

Drove it all the way home at night and it sat at 89° all the way home, so it must be the heat of the day causing heat soak that the old thermos cant deal with anymore.

I agree that some nice thermo's would be ideal, like some ford ones, but I figured that if i can find a similar stock style fan set-up it would be better in price and cooling efficiency. The clutch fan pulls some serious CFM so you'd think they'd be better than any other thermo's.

a quick trip down to the local radiator mob and he also confirms that its heat soak due to the ageing thermo fans and the crappy ebay 16inch thermo causing a restriction.

I called a few other blokes and they recon its not heatsoak its the thermostat, but since ive got a brand new thermostat, I find that very hard to believe.

So, the hunt begins for 1x fan, 1x clutch for fan, 1x radaitor shroud. Somehow i have a feeling i might be wanting too much, lol.

Anyone know if a 1G fan would fit?

Mate don't be a tight arse with the fans just get the falcon ones or something similar. I would hate to see you cook an engine for the sake of a couple of decent fans and I think you would agree that a decent fan set up is way cheaper than a new 2J.

JZZ30's run clutch fan

JZX81 im not sure but i think its hydro fan too.

JZX90, again, im not sure.

head down to your local wreckers and pick up a set of ef-ba falcon thermos. I had these on my 7mgte and never had an issue. they cost me $95.

The suck a HUGE amount of air when on full speed ;-)
