i can assure you that they are not the same, the gen 1/2 have 42mm rod journals, and the gen 3 has got 44mm ones....

diff being, you can only get stock ones for the gen 3 and they are farr from a reasonable price imho.

    It's actually not a GEN 1/2/3 argument.

It is however, that in the later model Gen 3's (Early Gen 3 vs Late Gen 3) they came with a fully counterweighted crankshaft whereas the early gen3's and gen 1/2's came with a half counterweighted one.

The difference is, that the fully counterweighted one had a larger journal size and hence a different rod big end size.

This is where the problem lies.

The smaller size journal (Gen 1/2/early 3) is similar to many other toyota bearing sizes and hence is easy to find and cheap to source.
The later model gen 3 with the larger bearing size, is rare, and specific to the gen 3 1g-gte. Hence they are expensive. Also, I believe that toyota dont' make them any more or something similar, and the only other direct fit ones are something that aren't very good ( I don't remember what exactly).

    That should sum it up.

EDIT: I have photos to back all this up.

um i can assure you that you can get them from toyota for the 44mm crank, but the price i had along with a 4 week wait from japan was 45 bucks per bearing... so 7x45 = $315 just for the crank mains, and 39 or so for the rod bearings.... 6x39 = 234 bucks....

like i was saying, not what i would call a decent price for oem bearings.... only problem is all the bearings have differant part numbers, and he said the prices are all differant for the mains, so it could even be more than that o.0

i just took the easy route and got an early model small journal crank off 6boost and solved all the problems and if u give him enough loving he can help you source the parts too

Hash: Do you have the crank out of the engine? It's pretty easy to see, a fully counterweighted crank has counterweights on every journal, where as a half counterweighted one only has counterweights on half of the journals. One way to tell easily is a fully counterweighted one would roll on a carpet floor easily as it is essentially round.

A half counterweighted one will not roll so well, because it's half round and half flat so it'd turn stop, turn stop..

Slow: I didn't say you couldn't get them, I just said they were less common and dearer.

If anyone wants a small bearing crank (half counterweighted) I've got two.

ahh well yeah you can get them, but the $$$ toyota ask for them are just slightly steep. not to mention u will have a 3-4 week wait on shipping alone *shakes fist*

i think 6boost/forcefed would be able to tell you if there is a way/build date that it changes over.... 8/88 risngs a bell, but u should have to see/ask someone like the above...

My experience thus far shows no apparent date correlation.
