ah, yup
KE30 didn7t have 5 speed tho? so it is KE55?
they definitely swap over, no fartarsing around. i have that combo in spoontah atm

Just beware that when you swap the Ke70 housing onto the Ke55 box that you mite have to change the speedo gear over as well, i did this swap the other way around, the gear on the output shart in the KE55 box has only 5 starts and the one in my KE70 box had 6 starts.
Hence my speedo is out and I need to pull the box out again and swap it.

thansk shane, i forget to mention it
typically the KE1X has 5/19 teeth adn the later ones had 6/20 and 6/21? i forget the actual numbers
but the 6 and 5 are different diameters,,, the 20/21 (or is it 21/22?) driven gear are same diameter,

what magic timing for a thread revival.
i too will be swapping my ke55 5spd for a ke70 5spd in the coming weeks.
slight direction change, but still on the box swap issue.
i did an engine/box swap late last year, went from 3k 4spd to 5k 5spd. i didn't have any issues with the speedo showing incorrect speeds. i swapped my 5k for a 4k a month ago and my speedo now shows 6-8kms faster than what i'm actually going. i didn't change anything else, still using the original ke20 speedo cable.
should i invest the time to swap the speedo gears over and maybe the speedo will magically be correct again? or just swap the ext. housings over and hope for the best??
cheers dF

from KE55 to KE70, the only difference is the speedo driven gear.. the one you plug into the side of the box, so if you swapped that, then no issue.
the type of gear will be written either on the plastic gear itself, or on the shaft.
or.. count the number of teeth
and when you do, report back
there is no reason for it to magically read higher. maybe in moving things around you freed something up? or the cable going into speedo is at a better angle? sometimes they can be a bit fickle..

the original 5spd is unknown...i'm assuming its a ke55 one as the reverse switch plug (electrical wires) is different to that on the new ke70 5spd.
if i can swap the speedo gears without needing to drop the box/drain the oil, then i might as well leave them where they are and see what happens after the swap.
thanks![]()

Did that with my KE30, had to use a T18 T50, but had a T292 diff, so had to find another speedo gear for it. Also, I think changing the linkages over is a bitch of a job, but I think I toyed with the idea on a T50, and they are a fair bit different.
Have fun, either way.

with the K boxes, there are only two drive gears.. 5 and 6 tooth. 5 was used for KE10 and maybe possibly perhaps, early KE20.
the rest use same 6 tooth.
what differes is the driven gear thta you plug in. the 19tooth MUST be a set with the 5 tooth worm. the others can swap over.
from my preliminary looking, the T50 shift rods look to be easily swappable, same with the K boxes.
i've put KE10 shift rods into KE20, KE30, KE55 and KE70 4 speeds.
only issue is position of the reverse switch (KE10 is in ext housing, KE70 is toward front of box with longer shift rod, and KE30 is near rear of main case? i forget)
the T series look similar in their difference so should be same.
of course the other option is to just swap the guts over.
the layshaft diameter is same in each (k series) although the layshaft bearings are different.
the reverse shaft and bits also swap.
the mainshift i think is almost same (difference in the needle rollers between the two halves) but i am not 100% sure on the main front bearing.... (KE10 had different spline front shaft, so may have different bearing)
but with some fiddling, almots anything goes anywhere, as long as you keep certain "sets"
