    Default turbo compressor housing question

    Quick question

Wanting to get a metal elbow welded onto my compressor housing while I have it off for polishing. Just wanting to check what sort of metal I need? I assume most turbos would be made of the same stuff but for reference it is a Hypergear TR44. I was thinking probably aluminium pipe and welded with a TIG by the looks of it.

Doesn't "appear" to be a steel as it isn't all that heavy.

Any help much appreciated. Can get pics if that helps.

Compressor housings are aluminium. Why would you polish it?

cast aluminium probably, so should have a fair whack of silicon content perhaps (for fluidity).. (does it look like ally?)
someone with experience with welding to shit cast alloy will be able to recommend filler wire etc...

Yeah feels like an alloy to me because of the weight. Good stuff, I know a guy who welds aluminium gates so I will grab some alloy pipe and pop around to his joint.

    Thanks

use a 4043 silicone rod and remember that you will have to hit it with about 130 amps for it to start and also prduce a nice weld.
not sure of the size but try to match the orig o/d of the turbo or it will look like arse.

    cheers
