Just a complete guess, but I'm sure there's got to be a $5 jaycar thing that converts 3 pulses to 2, then you could just find the wire that goes to your tacho and place it inline.
hi,
my hilux in dash tacho is reading 33.3% higher than it should due to the conversion from the 3y to the 5mge. what i want to know is how hard is it to correct this. do i just need to get a tacho element out of a celica supra with the 5me engine? is it hard to put it in to the back of the dash due to certain seals not being able to be broken? i want to keep it all standard in the dash so no get a new tacho comments, besides that any help is appreciated.
cheers

That good enough?
Exactly the kind of info i am after. thanks
What year is it?
Is it digital or analogue?
Most Toyota analogue guages from mid 80's onwards have a build in potentiometer.
You just have to twist it and bingo, 4 cyls becomes 6

yes, definately look at the back of the tacho (you need to remove the gauge totally from the board). I have recalibrated cressida, camry and 4 runner tachos just using the potentiometer on the back and all have worked well
What about the TA22 Tachos
I have heard you can make them read a 6 how is that done??

i know for a fact that you can BOLT IN a MX62 cressida tacho unit (6cyl) into a RA40 cluster. i **think** they may also fit RA23/38. NFI regarding TA22.
what i did to get a tacho for a while was to colour in the numbers with a black pen, and rewrite my own numbers in white!! dogdey as hellonly problem is that the tacho oly went to about 5.3krpm
