    Default SC14 Supercharger Queries

Hey guys i have recently acquired a SC14 blower for my KE30, it looked to be quite respectable, but im new to blowers and don't know a great lot about them, now should it spin freely all the time?. when you move mine by hand it sorta gets really hard to turn in 1 spot? is this normal?, and the propellors hav a few little pit marks on them? is that normal?

    Cheers guys

i just installed a sc14 on a mates 202, and it is hard to turn at one point, i put it down to not having oil flow when its off the car, just like a bush bearing turbo gets a bit harder to turn with no oil in the bearings, although i dont have much knowledge with blowers but i assume its normal as it was recently rebuilt, the pits arent normal it will be wear, just like slight chips on the turbine blades etc.

Ah okay that's starting to make some sense now, are the pits something to worry about on the performance side of things?, i want to make sure the blower is reliable etc, should i send it back and ask for a better condition one?

it shoudnt be harder to turn at any point it should be smooth though its entire movement..

as far as oil not circulating ?!??!

the oil is in a sealed case at the rear its not like a turbo where they recieve an oil feed from the engine oil supply. infact there is no pressure the gears just spash around in the oil.

small marks are wear. big marks are problems.

post some pics of the lobes up close if you can.

Maybe inlet/outlets were torqued up too tight as to warp the casing? Rather odd either way..

do you have a cloth or cover on the pipe of either of the snouts blocking it ? if so the resistance will be thelobes generating a vaccuum/pressure in the pipes.

that SC isnt in really good health. the first pic you can see a lump of teflon melted on the RHS plus signs of ear along the edge of the lobe.

the second you can see the teflon coating has worn right though and exposed the bare aliminium lobe underneath.

and again with melted teflon on the last pic.

that blower will either work poorly or not for long. sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Fuck aye, i will be sending it straight back, im guessing that these marks could be burring the lobes together hence why it gets very tight. Either way, thanks for the helpy TooF and Viper +Rep.
