Usually in photography, anything you could do in a lightroom is considered okay in digital.

Yep agree with that. Most digital cameras come with a basic programme to tweak that sort of thing.

I just think that unless there is a specific competition for heavily edited pictures its not fair for someone to enter something that is not even a real scene and win over someone that actually went outside and found something to take a picture of.

Well i can do vignetting, colour conversion, crossprocessing, and much much more in a "proper" darkroom, so is that ok?

On OCAU (which is probably the strictest ruleset i have found) it is limited to your standard contrast, saturation etc, and bordering.
Only very light photoshopping is allowed. Adjustment of Levels, Colour Correction, Contrast, Sharpening and Cropping is allowed.

The OCAU Photo wiki is a pretty good reference.

takai: Yes, I think all that stuff is fine.

Personally I think the whole "anti-post production" stuff is a little silly. I think it's mostly just photographers who don't want to learn all the new tricks you can do in Photoshop getting a bit uppity and not wanting to move forward. The only time I have a problem with it is if someone takes other peoples photos, and fixes them up and then calls them their own.

well, there are plenty of photography forums around that people can join. on thes eforums (and in many other places) you can find excellent tips from beginner to advanced as to how to take better photos.

not sure there is a need for ToyMods to contain a photography forum in it's own right tho?
although there are many people here (and indeed everywhere) that enjoy taking photos, there are probably more people that enjoy cooking or whatnot...

and there is already a place for car photos.. members ride threads

there is also a Gallery section of toymods (although it does not seem well populated as yet), so event photos can go there.

perhaps a single camera discussion thread would be good, so it is easier to find scattered information.. and deletion of any new threads as to what camera etc etc (redirect OP to post in the main thread)

is there a need for a competition for photos? does it matter if they are edited?

As i see it the Gallery section isnt actually usable at all, since it doesnt exist. And the "show us your photography" thread is full and overflowing, so having a Photo Gallery forum for people to show off their photos would probably be ideal. Wouldnt need to have competitions or anything of that sort either, but simply allow for an easier way of people to showcase their photos, which seems to be a fairly popular activity.

I guess there does not NEED to be a photography section but I think Toymods is a very close community and always getting closer so its just another thing many of us have in common we can share.

I just thought that a monthly competition would just be something fun for club members to do and might even draw some new members in when they see what a friendly bunch we are
The only reason I said that heavily edited photos should not be allowed is that not everyone has the right gear/skills/time etc to to do it and a competition is only fair if everyone is playing to the same rules.
